How and where to use guide

VELUX Centre-Pivot Roof Windows Pine 134x98cm GGL UK04 3070

Typical applications and positioning

Install this window in pitched roof openings where you need to maximise usable floor space below. It suits loft bedrooms, home offices, studies and any attic conversion where standard roof windows would interfere with furniture placement. The top control bar design means you can position the window lower than traditional models whilst maintaining excellent sightlines when standing or seated. Ensure the roof opening dimensions match the UK04 size (134x98cm) and that the roof pitch falls within the manufacturer's recommended range for safe operation.

  • Loft bedrooms and attic conversions with limited floor space
  • Rooms where you want to position beds, desks or wardrobes directly under the window
  • Spaces requiring lower window positioning for better views from seated positions
  • Pitched roofs where traditional side-hung windows are unsuitable

Operation and daily use

Open and close the window using the top control bar with smooth, easy hand movements. For ventilation without fully opening, push the control bar to the ventilation position to crack the window slightly and allow fresh air circulation whilst maintaining security and weather protection. To clean the outer glass safely, rotate the sash 180 degrees around the central pivot point until it locks in the reversed position, giving you full internal access to the exterior surface. The removable ventilation filter should be checked regularly and cleaned or replaced to maintain airflow and protect against dust and insect ingress.

  • Use the top control bar for intuitive opening, closing and ventilation control
  • Rotate 180 degrees for safe internal cleaning of outer glass surfaces
  • Check and clean the removable ventilation filter monthly or as needed
  • Ensure the window is fully closed and latched before leaving the room unattended

Glazing performance and safety

The window comes fitted with premium glazing as standard, including safety lamination and toughened glass that meets UK building regulations for roof windows. The integrated UV filter helps protect furnishings and reduces glare, whilst the unique rain noise reduction technology minimises sound transmission during heavy rainfall. This combination of features means you receive thermal and acoustic performance without requiring upgrades, though additional options such as blinds can be added by clicking them into the pre-fitted brackets for further control of light and privacy.

  • Safety lamination and toughened glass provide impact resistance and security
  • UV filter protects interior furnishings from sun damage and reduces glare
  • Rain noise reduction technology minimises external weather noise transmission
  • Pre-fitted brackets allow quick installation of optional blinds and shades

Installation and maintenance considerations

Installation must be carried out by a qualified surveyor or experienced builder to ensure the window is correctly fitted within the roof opening, properly flashed to prevent water ingress, and that all safety mechanisms function correctly. After installation, check that the pivot mechanism operates smoothly and that the control bar moves freely without resistance. Periodically inspect the frame seals and flashing, particularly after severe weather, and clean the glass using standard window cleaning methods. The ventilation filter should be accessible for regular maintenance without requiring tools or specialist knowledge.

  • Commission a qualified installer to ensure correct fitting and weatherproofing
  • Test the pivot rotation and control bar operation before handover
  • Inspect frame seals and roof flashing annually for signs of wear or damage
  • Clean glass and frames with standard household window cleaning products
