VELUX Centre-Pivot Roof Windows White Painted 78x98cm GGL MK04 2062

Typical applications and installation

This window is best suited to loft conversions, attic bedrooms, and upper-floor rooms in noise-sensitive locations. The 78x98cm (MK04) size fits standard roof pitches and rafter spacings. Installation should be carried out by a qualified installer to ensure proper flashing, weatherproofing, and structural support. The window requires a suitable roof opening and compatible flashing kit appropriate to your roof covering type and pitch.

  • Bedrooms in properties near roads, railways, or airports
  • Home offices and study spaces requiring acoustic control
  • Loft conversions where furniture placement flexibility is needed
  • Rooms where traditional side-hung windows are impractical

Operation and daily use

The top control bar allows intuitive opening and closing from any position in the room, making this window exceptionally practical for spaces with furniture or storage beneath. The centre-pivot mechanism enables the sash to rotate 180 degrees, allowing you to safely access and clean the external glass surface from inside without climbing onto the roof or using external ladders. Simply push the control bar upwards to open and downwards to close. The removable ventilation filter should be checked monthly and cleaned or replaced as needed to maintain airflow and protect against dust and insect ingress.

  • Top control bar operates smoothly regardless of furniture placement below
  • 180-degree rotation enables safe internal cleaning of outer glass
  • Ventilation filter is removable for easy cleaning and replacement
  • Ensure the pivot mechanism is kept clean and free from debris

Sound insulation performance and limitations

The special sound-insulating glazing and enhanced acoustic insulation significantly reduce external noise transmission compared to standard roof windows. However, this window is most effective as part of a comprehensive acoustic strategy; sound reduction performance depends on proper installation, sealed joints, and the absence of other uninsulated openings. Whilst this window substantially reduces noise, it cannot eliminate all external sound, particularly very low-frequency noise from heavy traffic or aircraft. For maximum benefit, ensure all other roof penetrations and ventilation paths are also acoustically treated.

  • Reduces noise from traffic, aircraft, and general external sources
  • Performance depends on correct installation and sealed joints
  • Most effective when combined with other acoustic measures
  • Not suitable as a sole solution for extremely high-noise environments

Maintenance and optional upgrades

Regular maintenance is straightforward. Clean the glass using the 180-degree rotation feature to access external surfaces safely from indoors. The ventilation filter should be inspected monthly and cleaned with a soft brush or replaced if clogged. Check that the pivot hinges and control bar mechanism remain free from dirt and operate smoothly. For added convenience, the window is compatible with remote-controlled mains-powered or solar-powered motors, which can be retrofitted to automate opening and closing. Compatible blinds can be quickly installed using the pre-fitted brackets without additional fixings.

  • Clean glass safely by rotating the sash 180 degrees from inside
  • Inspect and clean the ventilation filter monthly
  • Keep pivot hinges and control bar free from dirt and debris
  • Optional motor upgrade available for remote-controlled operation
  • Compatible blinds attach easily to pre-fitted brackets
