How and where to use guide

VELUX Centre-Pivot Roof Windows White Painted 78x140cm GGL MK08 2060

Typical applications and positioning

Install this roof window in loft rooms, attic bedrooms, home offices, and converted upper storeys where roof-level glazing provides natural daylight and views. The centre-pivot design suits pitched roofs with rafter spacing compatible with the MK08 frame size. Position the window to avoid direct summer sun exposure where possible, or plan for external shading to reduce overheating. Ensure the roof structure above and below the window opening is adequately supported; consult structural calculations if removing or modifying rafters. The window's burglary-resistant features make it particularly suitable for ground-floor loft conversions or properties in higher-risk areas.

  • Loft conversions and attic bedrooms
  • Home offices and studios requiring natural light
  • Upper-floor rooms in converted properties
  • Pitched roofs with standard rafter spacing

Safe operation and daily use

Open and close the window using the top control bar. The centre-pivot mechanism allows the window to rotate 180 degrees, enabling you to safely clean the outer glass surface from inside without accessing the roof externally. Use the ventilation position by opening the top control bar partially to allow fresh air circulation while keeping the window closed, useful for reducing condensation and maintaining indoor air quality. The window operates smoothly even with furniture positioned directly underneath, so you do not need to clear the room each time you ventilate. The removable and cleanable ventilation filter should be checked regularly and cleaned or replaced to maintain airflow and protect against dust and insect ingress.

  • Operate via top control bar for smooth opening and closing
  • Rotate 180 degrees for safe outer glass cleaning from inside
  • Use ventilation position for fresh air without full opening
  • Clean or replace ventilation filter regularly to maintain airflow
  • No need to move furniture to operate the window

Glazing, security, and maintenance

The window features 2-layer glazing with laminated internal panes and toughened external glazing, reducing heat loss and enhancing thermal comfort while providing burglary resistance. Integrated frame locks and extra-strong hinges form part of the security package. Clean the glazing regularly with a soft cloth and mild detergent; avoid abrasive cleaners that may damage the frame finish. Check frame locks and hinges annually for smooth operation and apply a light machine oil if needed. The white painted finish should be inspected for any chips or wear; touch up with appropriate exterior paint if necessary to prevent moisture ingress. Do not force the window if it becomes stiff; this may indicate misalignment or debris in the pivot mechanism—clean gently and seek professional advice if problems persist.

  • Laminated and toughened glazing provides security and thermal efficiency
  • Integrated frame locks and reinforced hinges resist forced entry
  • Clean glazing with soft cloth and mild detergent only
  • Inspect locks and hinges annually; apply light oil if needed
  • Check white painted finish for damage and touch up as required
  • Do not force operation; clean pivot mechanism gently if stiff

On-site tips and limitations

Ensure the roof opening is accurately sized to the MK08 frame dimensions before installation begins. The window is designed for pitched roofs; do not install on flat roofs or in positions where water pooling may occur. Pre-fitted brackets allow quick and easy attachment of compatible VELUX blinds, which can be clicked into place without additional fixings. Plan blind installation after the window is fully operational. In high-wind locations, consider the exposure rating of your roof and consult VELUX technical guidance if necessary. The centre-pivot design means the window projects into the room when open, so ensure adequate clearance above and to the sides. Do not obstruct the ventilation filter or control bar with insulation or other materials during installation.

  • Verify roof opening size matches MK08 frame dimensions
  • Suitable for pitched roofs only; not for flat roofs
  • Pre-fitted brackets simplify blind installation
  • Ensure clearance above and to sides when window is open
  • Do not obstruct ventilation filter or control bar
  • Consult VELUX guidance for high-wind or exposed locations
