VELUX Centre-Pivot Roof Windows White Painted 114x118cm GGL SK06 2070Q

Typical applications and installation locations

This centre-pivot roof window is best suited to loft conversions, attic bedrooms, home offices, and studio spaces where both daylight and security are important. The burglary-resistant design makes it particularly valuable in properties with roof access or where the window is positioned above ground level but still vulnerable to external approach. The 114x118cm size (SK06) fits standard rafter spacings in UK roof construction. Installation should be carried out by a qualified surveyor or installer to ensure proper flashing, insulation, and weatherproofing around the window frame.

  • Loft conversions and attic bedrooms requiring natural light and ventilation
  • Upper-floor rooms where security enhancement is desired
  • Properties where external window cleaning access is difficult or unsafe
  • Spaces requiring thermal efficiency and reduced heat loss
  • Rooms benefiting from controlled ventilation without full window opening

Operation and safe use

The top-operated control bar allows intuitive opening and closing of the window. Push the bar downward to open the window fully, or hold it in the intermediate ventilation position to allow fresh air circulation whilst keeping the window effectively closed for security and weather protection. The centre-pivot design enables the entire sash to rotate 180 degrees, allowing you to safely clean the external glass surface from inside the room without climbing onto the roof or using external ladders. This feature is particularly valuable for maintenance in high or difficult-to-access positions. The window operates smoothly even when furniture is positioned directly underneath, making it practical for rooms with limited floor space.

  • Use the top control bar to open fully or hold in ventilation position for fresh air
  • Rotate the window 180 degrees for safe internal cleaning of external glass
  • Operate smoothly with furniture positioned underneath the window
  • Never force the mechanism if resistance is felt; check for obstructions first
  • Ensure the window is fully closed and locked before leaving the property unattended

Security features and maintenance

The GGL Q model incorporates integrated frame locks, extra-strong hinges, laminated internal glazing, and toughened external glazing to provide comprehensive burglary resistance. The laminated internal layer prevents glass from shattering into dangerous shards, whilst the toughened external glazing resists impact and breakage. These features work together to reinforce the window against forced entry and accidental damage. Maintenance is straightforward: the removable and cleanable ventilation filter should be inspected regularly and cleaned or replaced to maintain airflow and protect your home from dust and insects. Check the filter monthly during heavy-use seasons and replace as needed to ensure optimal ventilation performance.

  • Integrated frame locks and reinforced hinges provide burglary resistance
  • Laminated internal glazing and toughened external glazing resist breakage and impact
  • Inspect and clean the removable ventilation filter monthly
  • Replace the ventilation filter when airflow reduces or visible dust accumulation occurs
  • Wipe the glass and frame with a soft, damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners
  • Check all locks and hinges annually for smooth operation

Glazing performance and thermal efficiency

The 2-layer glazing system reduces heat loss through the window and enhances indoor comfort by maintaining more stable internal temperatures. This double-glazing approach is essential in converted roof spaces where temperature control can be challenging due to solar gain and exposure. The combination of the laminated internal pane and toughened external pane also provides acoustic benefits, reducing external noise transmission. Condensation may occasionally form on the inner surface during cold weather; this is normal and can be minimised by ensuring adequate ventilation using the ventilation position on the control bar.

  • 2-layer glazing reduces heat loss and improves thermal comfort
  • Laminated and toughened glazing combination provides acoustic insulation
  • Use the ventilation position regularly to minimise condensation in cold weather
  • Ensure the ventilation filter is clean to maintain air circulation

Blind installation and accessories

The window comes with pre-fitted brackets that allow you to quickly and easily install compatible VELUX blinds by simply clicking them into place. This modular approach means you can add blackout blinds, roller blinds, or venetian blinds without additional fixings or tools. Blinds can be fitted or removed at any time to suit changing requirements, making the window adaptable to different uses and seasons.

  • Pre-fitted brackets allow quick click-in installation of compatible VELUX blinds
  • Blinds can be added or removed without additional fixings
  • Choose from blackout, roller, or venetian blind options as required
