How and where to use guide
VELUX Twin and Combination Flashings 78x140cm EBL MK08 0021B
Typical applications and installation location
This flashing is used to create a weather-tight seal around VELUX rooflights and skylights where they penetrate the roof plane in timber-framed buildings. It is installed at the perimeter of the rooflight opening, sitting between the rooflight frame and the surrounding roof structure. The flashing accommodates walls and roof assemblies up to 2.4m high and works with both softwood and hardwood timber frames, making it suitable for a range of residential and light commercial timber-framed construction projects.
- Install around VELUX rooflight and skylight openings in timber-framed buildings
- Position at the junction between rooflight frame and roof structure
- Suitable for timber-framed walls up to 2.4m high
- Compatible with softwood and hardwood timber grades
Installation and positioning
The flashing must be positioned to create a continuous weather-tight seal around the entire perimeter of the rooflight opening. The galvanized steel frame provides structural support whilst the weather-resistant membrane sits against the timber frame and roof surface to prevent water penetration. Ensure the membrane is fully adhered and that all edges are sealed to eliminate gaps where water could enter. The flashing dimensions of 78cm and 140cm accommodate different rooflight sizes; select the appropriate size for your opening.
- Position flashing to fully surround the rooflight opening perimeter
- Ensure weather-resistant membrane makes full contact with timber frame and roof surface
- Seal all edges and joints to prevent water ingress
- Select 78cm or 140cm dimension according to rooflight size
Maintenance and durability
The galvanized steel frame resists corrosion and provides long-term durability in exposed roof conditions. The weather-resistant membrane protects against water ingress and weather exposure. Periodically inspect the flashing to ensure the membrane remains intact and all seals are sound. Check that debris such as leaves or moss does not accumulate around the flashing edges, as this can trap moisture and compromise the weather-tight seal. The galvanized coating should not require additional treatment, but ensure no damage to the membrane occurs during maintenance or roof works.
- Inspect membrane regularly for damage or deterioration
- Clear debris from around flashing edges to prevent moisture trapping
- Ensure seals remain intact and weather-tight
- Avoid damaging the galvanized coating or membrane during maintenance
On-site handling and limitations
Handle the flashing carefully to avoid bending the galvanized steel frame or tearing the weather-resistant membrane, as damage will compromise the weather-tight seal. This flashing is designed specifically for VELUX rooflights and skylights; do not use for other window or door types. The maximum wall height specification of 2.4m should be observed to ensure the flashing performs as intended. Store the flashing flat and protected from weather before installation to prevent damage to the membrane.
- Handle carefully to avoid damage to frame or membrane
- Use only with VELUX rooflights and skylights
- Observe maximum wall height limit of 2.4m
- Store flat and protected from weather until installation
