How and where to use guide
VELUX Recessed Flashings W/ Installation Productions 66x118cm EDJ FK06 2000
Suitable applications and roof types
This recessed flashing is designed specifically for pitched tile roofs and is compatible only with VELUX FK06 roof window systems. It is suitable for standard domestic pitched roof installations in typical UK climate conditions. The flashing can be used in both new build projects where the roof structure is being constructed and in refurbishment work where windows are being added to existing roofs. Always verify that your roof window is the FK06 size before ordering, as this flashing is engineered for this specific window dimension of 660 × 1180mm.
- Pitched tile roofs only
- Compatible with VELUX FK06 windows exclusively
- New build and refurbishment applications
- Standard UK domestic roof installations
Installation and positioning
The flashing must be installed before the roof window is fitted. Position the flashing opening in the roof structure to align precisely with the window frame location. The recessed design, with a depth of 90mm, is engineered to integrate neatly between roof tiles. The flashing should be secured to the roof structure according to VELUX installation instructions, ensuring it is level and square. Tiles must be cut and fitted around the flashing perimeter to create a continuous, weather-tight seal. The flashing edges should overlap the tile courses appropriately to direct water down and away from the window frame.
- Install flashing before fitting the roof window
- Ensure precise alignment with window opening
- Secure flashing firmly to roof structure
- Cut and fit tiles around flashing perimeter
- Maintain proper tile overlap for water drainage
Weather-tightness and maintenance
The recessed design creates a weather-tight seal that protects against water ingress, which is essential in UK roof conditions. Once installed, the flashing requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the tile courses around the flashing to ensure they remain intact and properly seated. Check that no debris, moss, or lichen has accumulated around the flashing edges, as this can impede water drainage. If tiles become damaged or displaced around the flashing, repair or replace them promptly to maintain the weather-tight integrity of the installation.
- Inspect tile courses around flashing annually
- Clear debris and moss from flashing perimeter
- Repair or replace damaged tiles immediately
- Ensure water drainage pathways remain clear
Important limitations and on-site tips
This flashing is engineered specifically for the FK06 window size and pitched tile roofs. It cannot be used with other VELUX window sizes or on flat roofs, slate roofs, or other roof types without specialist advice. The 90mm depth is fixed and designed for standard tile roof construction; non-standard roof structures may require alternative solutions. Always follow VELUX installation instructions in full and consider engaging a qualified roofer for installation if you are unfamiliar with roof work. Ensure all necessary VELUX accessories and installation products are obtained before work begins to avoid delays on site.
