How and where to use guide

VELUX Recessed Flashings W/ Installation Productions 78x118cm EDJ MK06 2000

Typical applications and suitability

This flashing system is intended for pitched tile roofs where an MK06 roof window needs to be installed flush with the roof plane. It suits both new build projects where the roof structure is being formed and refurbishment work where windows are being added to existing properties. The 90mm tile flashing depth is engineered to accommodate standard pitched roof tile profiles commonly used in UK construction. The recessed design ensures the window sits neatly within the roof line rather than projecting above it, maintaining visual consistency across the roof surface.

  • New build pitched tile roof installations
  • Refurbishment and retrofit projects
  • Standard UK tile roof profiles
  • Flush, integrated roof window finish

Installation and on-site use

The BDX 2000F installation frame and 90mm tile flashing work together as a complete system to simplify on-site assembly. The frame positions the window opening correctly within the roof structure, whilst the tile flashing creates the weather-tight seal between the window frame and the surrounding tiles. Installation should follow VELUX guidance to ensure proper alignment and sealing. The kit is sized at 780×1180mm to match the MK06 window dimensions, eliminating guesswork on compatibility. Ensure the roof opening is prepared to the correct dimensions and that the surrounding tile courses are ready to receive the flashing before fitting.

  • Use the complete kit as supplied to avoid compatibility issues
  • Follow VELUX installation instructions for frame positioning
  • Prepare roof opening to specified dimensions before installation
  • Ensure surrounding tiles are ready to receive the flashing
  • Check weather-tight seal is properly formed around all edges

Weather protection and durability

The recessed flashing system is engineered to provide a weather-tight seal that protects against water ingress and thermal bridging in UK climate conditions. The aluminium and compatible weatherproofing components are designed for long-term durability and reliable performance in pitched roof environments. The 90mm depth allows water to run off naturally whilst the flashing profile directs moisture away from the window frame and into the tile courses below. Proper installation is essential to maintain this protection; any gaps or misalignment will compromise the weather-tight integrity.

  • Aluminium and weatherproofing components resist UK weather exposure
  • 90mm depth supports natural water run-off
  • Thermal bridging is minimised by the system design
  • Long-term durability in typical pitched roof conditions

Maintenance and limitations

Once installed, the flashing system requires minimal maintenance beyond routine roof inspection. Check periodically that the seal around the window frame remains intact and that debris has not accumulated in the flashing profile. The system is designed specifically for pitched tile roofs; it is not suitable for flat roofs, slate roofs with non-standard profiles, or other roof types. The MK06 window size (78×118cm) is fixed, so this kit cannot be adapted for larger or smaller openings. If the roof pitch or tile profile differs significantly from standard UK specifications, consult VELUX technical guidance before proceeding.

  • Inspect seal and flashing profile during routine roof maintenance
  • Clear debris from flashing to maintain water run-off
  • Not suitable for flat roofs or non-standard tile profiles
  • MK06 size is fixed; cannot be adapted for other window dimensions
