Suitable applications and roof types

These flashings are designed for pitched roof installations where VELUX roof windows measuring 94x160cm are being fitted or replaced. They work with standard roof tile and slate coverings and are rated for roof pitches up to a maximum of 45 degrees. If your roof pitch exceeds 45 degrees or your window size differs from 94x160cm, you will need a different flashing specification. The flashings are suitable for both new build installations and retrofit projects where an existing roof window is being replaced.

Installation and alignment

Installation must be carried out with careful attention to alignment and positioning. The flashing kit must be integrated with the window frame and positioned so that it sits correctly within your roof covering. The flashing directs water away from the window opening and back onto the roof surface. Proper alignment with existing roof tiles or slates is essential – any gaps or misalignment will compromise the weathertight seal and allow water to penetrate around the window opening. Installation should be undertaken by competent roofers familiar with roof window fitting, as incorrect installation can result in leaks and water damage.

Maintenance and performance

Once installed, the flashing system requires minimal maintenance but should be inspected periodically to ensure the weathertight seal remains intact. Check that roof tiles or slates around the flashing have not shifted or become damaged, as this could compromise the seal. Clear any debris such as leaves or moss from around the flashing to maintain proper water drainage. If you notice any signs of water ingress around the window frame or staining on internal surfaces, inspect the flashing alignment and roof covering immediately, as this indicates the seal has been compromised.
