How and where to use guide
VELUX Standard Flashings 134x140cm EDP UK08 0000
Suitable applications and roof types
These flashings are designed for flat rooflight installations on pitched or flat roofs in domestic properties, extensions, and commercial buildings. They are compatible with timber-framed roof structures using F16, F24, or F32 grade timber. The EDP rating makes them particularly suitable for roofs in areas with high rainfall or exposed locations where wind-driven rain is a concern. Installation should be carried out during dry weather conditions to ensure proper sealing.
- Domestic loft conversions and roof extensions
- Commercial building flat rooflight installations
- Pitched and flat roof applications
- Timber-framed roof structures only
Installation and positioning
The 134 x 140cm flashing dimensions are designed to fit standard flat rooflight openings. Installation must be carried out in conjunction with a compatible VELUX flat rooflight unit. The flashing should be positioned around the rooflight perimeter to create a complete watertight seal. Ensure the roofing material (tiles, slates, or membrane) is properly integrated with the flashing edges to prevent water bypassing the seal. Follow the rooflight manufacturer's installation instructions carefully, as correct positioning of the flashing is critical to performance.
- Install during dry weather conditions
- Position flashing around complete rooflight perimeter
- Integrate roofing material with flashing edges
- Ensure no gaps or misalignment at corners
- Use appropriate fixings for your roof type
Drainage performance and maintenance
The Enhanced Drainage Performance rating means water is actively channelled away from the rooflight rather than sitting around the frame. This design significantly reduces the likelihood of water penetration into the building. To maintain this performance, keep the flashing and surrounding roof area clear of debris, moss, and lichen that could impede water flow. Check the flashing annually, particularly after severe weather, to ensure the seal remains intact and there are no cracks or separation in the PVC material.
- Clear debris and leaves from flashing regularly
- Check for moss or lichen growth that blocks drainage
- Inspect seal integrity annually
- Look for cracks or splits in PVC material
- Ensure guttering and downpipes are not blocked
Limitations and important considerations
These flashings are designed specifically for flat rooflight applications and are not suitable for other roof penetrations. The PVC construction is durable but can be damaged by sharp tools or rough handling during installation. The flashing must be used with compatible VELUX flat rooflight units and cannot be retrofitted to other rooflight brands without verification of compatibility. Installation should be carried out by competent persons familiar with roofing work, as poor installation will compromise the watertight seal and may lead to water damage.
- Not suitable for pitched rooflight installations
- Requires compatible VELUX flat rooflight unit
- Handle carefully to avoid PVC damage
- Installation by competent persons recommended
- Incompatible with non-timber roof structures
