How and where to use guide

VELUX Standard Flashings 55x78cm EDW CK02 0000

Where to use this flashing

This standard flashing is specifically designed for VELUX EDW rooflights installed on pitched roofs. It creates the watertight seal between the rooflight frame and the roof structure, preventing rainwater from penetrating around the edges of the installation. The flashing is compatible with the standard VELUX EDW rooflight range and is suitable for use on roofs with timber grades F16 and above, ensuring the underlying timber structure has adequate strength and durability to support the installation.

  • VELUX EDW rooflight installations on pitched roofs
  • Timber roof structures graded F16 or above
  • Both new roof installations and retrofit applications
  • Roofs with standard pitch angles suitable for VELUX EDW products

Installation and application

Before installation, verify that your VELUX EDW rooflight dimensions match the 55x78cm flashing size and confirm your roof timber meets the F16 grade requirement. The flashing must be positioned around the rooflight frame to create a continuous watertight barrier. Installation should be carried out in dry weather conditions to allow proper sealing. The durable plastic construction is designed to withstand weather exposure, but care should be taken during handling and installation to avoid damage that could compromise the watertight seal. Follow VELUX installation guidance specific to the EDW rooflight model being fitted.

  • Check rooflight and flashing dimensions match before starting work
  • Verify timber grade F16 or above on the roof structure
  • Install in dry weather to ensure proper sealing
  • Position flashing to create continuous seal around rooflight frame
  • Handle carefully to avoid cracking or damage to plastic components

Maintenance and durability

The high-quality plastic construction provides excellent weather resistance and long-term durability when properly installed. Regular inspection of the flashing is recommended, particularly after severe weather, to ensure the watertight seal remains intact. Check that the flashing sits correctly against the rooflight frame and that no gaps or cracks have developed. Clear any debris such as leaves or moss from around the flashing to maintain proper water drainage. The plastic material should not require specialist maintenance, but any damage should be addressed promptly to prevent water ingress.

  • Inspect flashing regularly for cracks or separation from rooflight frame
  • Clear debris and moss from around the flashing
  • Check watertight seal after extreme weather events
  • Address any damage immediately to prevent water penetration

Important limitations and safety

This flashing is designed specifically for VELUX EDW rooflights and pitched roof applications. It is not suitable for flat roofs or other rooflight types. Installation work on pitched roofs requires appropriate safety precautions including fall protection equipment and secure access. Only install on timber grades F16 and above; installation on weaker timber grades may result in inadequate support and potential failure. Always consult the rooflight manufacturer's installation instructions alongside this guidance to ensure compatibility and correct application.

  • Pitched roofs only; not suitable for flat roof installations
  • Compatible with VELUX EDW rooflights only
  • Timber grade F16 minimum requirement
  • Use appropriate fall protection when working at height
  • Refer to VELUX installation instructions for your specific rooflight model
