How and where to use guide

VELUX Standard Flashings 94x160cm EDW PK10 0000

Typical applications and installation

VELUX Standard Flashings are primarily used to seal VELUX EDW roof vents during installation on pitched timber roofs. The flashing sits between the roof covering and the vent frame, creating a watertight barrier. Installation involves positioning the flashing around the vent opening before securing the vent unit in place. The 94cm by 160cm dimensions are designed to accommodate standard EDW vent sizes with adequate overlap onto the surrounding roof surface. These flashings are suitable for both new roof installations and retrofit applications where existing roof vents require replacement or repair.

  • Install around VELUX EDW roof vents on timber-framed pitched roofs
  • Suitable for timber grades F16 and F24
  • Position flashing before securing vent unit to ensure proper water shedding
  • Use on new installations and replacement vent projects
  • Compatible with standard slate, tile, and sheet roof coverings

Material properties and weatherproofing

The 10mm vinyl construction provides durable, flexible weatherproofing that accommodates minor roof movement and thermal expansion. Vinyl resists UV degradation and remains pliable in cold conditions, preventing cracking or splitting. The thickness ensures the flashing maintains its shape under the weight of roof coverings and resists puncture or tearing during installation. The material naturally sheds water and does not absorb moisture, making it reliable for long-term outdoor exposure on UK roofs.

  • 10mm vinyl thickness provides robust protection against weathering
  • Flexible material accommodates roof movement and thermal changes
  • UV-resistant and maintains integrity in cold weather
  • Naturally sheds water without absorption
  • Durable construction suitable for professional and DIY use

Installation considerations and on-site tips

Before installation, ensure the roof opening is correctly sized for the EDW vent and that the surrounding timber structure is sound and properly prepared. The flashing should be positioned so that the upper edge sits under the roof covering above the vent and the lower edge overlaps the covering below. Secure the flashing firmly to prevent movement during vent installation. On sloped roofs, ensure water will naturally flow downslope across the flashing surface. Check that all edges are properly seated and sealed to the vent frame to prevent water pooling or lateral water entry. Allow adequate working space around the vent opening for proper flashing positioning and vent securing.

  • Verify roof opening dimensions match EDW vent requirements before fitting
  • Position flashing with upper edge under roof covering and lower edge overlapping below
  • Ensure flashing sits flat without wrinkles or folds that could trap water
  • Secure flashing firmly to prevent movement during vent installation
  • Check all edges are properly seated to prevent water ingress
  • Work on dry conditions when possible for better adhesion and visibility

Maintenance and limitations

Inspect flashings annually, particularly after severe weather, to ensure they remain properly seated and show no signs of damage or separation from the vent frame. Clear any debris such as leaves or moss that may accumulate around the flashing edges, as this can trap moisture. The vinyl material is durable but should not be subjected to sharp impacts or excessive bending during storage or installation. These flashings are designed specifically for use with VELUX EDW roof vents on timber-framed roofs; use on other vent types or roof structures should be verified for compatibility. Do not use on roof grades below F16 or on non-timber roof structures without structural assessment.

  • Inspect annually for proper seating and signs of damage
  • Clear debris from flashing edges to prevent moisture trapping
  • Handle carefully during storage and installation to avoid puncture or tearing
  • Designed for VELUX EDW vents on timber grades F16 and F24
  • Do not use on incompatible roof structures without verification
