How and where to use guide
VELUX Twin and Combination Flashings 78x140cm EKL MK08 S0222
Where to use this flashing
This flashing is designed specifically for Velux rooflights using the EKL MK08 S0222 compatible frame size. It can be installed on flat roofs, pitched roofs at any angle, and vertical wall installations where Velux rooflights are fitted. The 78cm × 140cm dimensions suit standard domestic and light commercial rooflight installations. Always verify your rooflight model matches the EKL MK08 S0222 specification before ordering to ensure precise fit.
- Flat roof installations where rooflights sit flush with the roof plane
- Pitched roofs at standard angles where rooflights are set into the roof structure
- Vertical wall installations with Velux rooflights
- New build and retrofit rooflight projects
Installation and application
The flashing must be positioned around the rooflight frame before the final weatherproofing layer is applied. Position the flashing so it sits between the rooflight frame and the roof covering material, creating a continuous weather-tight seal. On pitched roofs, ensure the flashing is correctly oriented with the upper edge overlapping the roof covering above the rooflight and the lower edge tucked beneath the covering below. On flat roofs, the flashing should be fully integrated into the waterproofing membrane system. Secure the flashing according to Velux installation guidance and your roof covering type.
- Install before final roof covering or membrane application
- Position flashing to overlap roof covering on upper edge
- Ensure lower edge is tucked beneath roof covering on pitched roofs
- Integrate fully into flat roof waterproofing systems
- Follow Velux technical instructions for your specific rooflight model
Limitations and maintenance
This flashing is designed for use only with compatible EKL MK08 S0222 Velux rooflights. Do not attempt to use with other rooflight brands or frame sizes, as this will compromise the weather-tight seal and void warranty protection. The plastic construction is durable but should be inspected annually, particularly after severe weather, to ensure the seal remains intact and no debris has accumulated around the flashing edges. Keep gutters and roof surfaces clear to prevent water pooling around the installation.
- Use only with EKL MK08 S0222 compatible Velux rooflights
- Inspect annually for damage or seal deterioration
- Clear debris and leaves from around the flashing
- Do not use with incompatible rooflight models or brands
- Check for water staining on ceilings below as an early warning sign
On-site tips
Measure your rooflight opening carefully before installation to confirm the 78cm × 140cm flashing is the correct size for your frame. Store the flashing flat and protected from direct sunlight before installation to prevent any warping. During installation, work in dry conditions whenever possible to ensure proper adhesion and sealing. If installing on a pitched roof, work from the bottom up to prevent water running behind the flashing during installation. Have all roof covering materials and adhesives ready before beginning flashing installation to minimise exposure time.
- Verify rooflight model matches EKL MK08 S0222 before starting work
- Store flashing flat in dry conditions prior to installation
- Install in dry weather for optimal seal performance
- Work from bottom to top on pitched roofs
- Have all materials and tools prepared before beginning installation
