VELUX Twin and Combination Flashings 55x118cm EKW CK06 S0222

Installation and positioning

The flashing must be positioned where the roof meets the skylight frame to create a continuous weatherproof barrier. Install the flashing before fitting the skylight unit itself, ensuring it sits flush against the roof surface and skylight frame. The 55x118cm dimensions are engineered to suit standard VELUX skylight openings. Position the flashing so water naturally sheds away from the building structure, with the upper edge tucked under roof tiles or slates and the lower edge overlapping the roof covering below the skylight opening.

  • Install flashing before the skylight unit to ensure proper seating
  • Ensure the upper edge sits beneath roof tiles or slates for water shedding
  • Check that the lower edge overlaps the roof covering to direct water away
  • Verify the flashing sits flush and level with no gaps at the frame junction

Material properties and durability

The Grade A timber construction provides structural strength and longevity in demanding roof environments. The weather-resistant finish protects the timber against fading, moisture absorption, and deterioration from UV exposure and temperature fluctuations. This finish is engineered for long-term outdoor performance without requiring frequent refinishing, though periodic inspection is recommended to maintain the seal integrity.

  • Grade A timber resists warping and splitting under roof stress
  • Weather-resistant coating protects against UV fading and moisture damage
  • Suitable for exposure to rain, wind, and temperature variations
  • Durable finish minimises maintenance requirements over the product lifespan

Maintenance and on-site considerations

After installation, inspect the flashing regularly to ensure the seal remains intact and no water is penetrating around the skylight frame. Clear any debris such as leaves or moss from around the flashing edges, as blockages can prevent water from shedding properly. Check that the weather-resistant finish shows no signs of cracking or peeling. If the flashing is damaged or the seal is compromised, water ingress into the building structure can occur, so prompt repair or replacement is essential.

  • Inspect the flashing seal quarterly and after severe weather
  • Remove debris and moss growth from around the flashing edges
  • Check for cracks, peeling, or separation from the skylight frame
  • Do not apply additional sealants over the weather-resistant finish without professional advice

Applications and limitations

This flashing is suitable for domestic and commercial roof installations where VELUX skylights are fitted. It is designed specifically for the 55x118cm VELUX skylight size; confirm your skylight dimensions match before ordering. The flashing creates a watertight seal only when properly installed and maintained. It is not suitable for non-standard skylight sizes or installations where the roof structure does not allow the flashing to sit flush against both the roof and frame.

  • Confirm your VELUX skylight is 55x118cm before installation
  • Suitable for pitched roofs with standard tile or slate coverings
  • Not designed for flat roof installations or non-VELUX skylight frames
  • Effectiveness depends on correct installation and ongoing maintenance
