This flashing is installed at the head (top) of a GCL Heritage window opening on pitched roofs covered with slate or plain tiles. It sits in the gap between the window frame and the surrounding roof structure, positioned so that roof tiles overlap it to direct water downslope and away from the window. The flashing bridges the junction where the window frame meets the tile surface, a point where water naturally collects and can penetrate if left unsealed. It is suitable for both new builds where windows are being installed during roof construction and retrofit applications where windows are being replaced in existing tiled roofs.

On-site handling and maintenance

Handle the metal flashing carefully to avoid denting or bending, which could compromise its weatherproofing function. Store it flat and protected from weather before installation. Once installed, the flashing requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the junction between the window frame and roof tiles to ensure tiles remain in place and the flashing has not shifted. Clear any debris such as moss or leaves from the roof surface around the window, as these can trap moisture and reduce the effectiveness of the flashing. If the flashing becomes loose or gaps appear between it and the window frame, reseal with appropriate roof sealant to maintain weatherproofing.
