How and where to use guide
Premdor 35mm door. Paint Grade Premium, 1981 x 762 mm.
Typical applications and suitability
This paint grade door is ideal for internal partitioning in homes, flats, offices and light commercial spaces. It is particularly suited to refurbishment work, new build projects and situations where budget is a consideration without compromising on solid core durability. The door works well in areas with moderate traffic and is not recommended for external use, wet environments such as bathrooms with high moisture, or heavy-duty commercial applications. The unlacquered veneer finish means the door requires decoration before installation.
- Internal doorways in residential properties and light commercial buildings
- Refurbishment projects and non-standard openings
- Budget-conscious new build and renovation schemes
- Moderate traffic areas such as bedrooms, studies and storage rooms
- Not suitable for external use or high-moisture environments
Installation and trimming
The door arrives unfinished and ready for decoration. Before hanging, inspect the door for any damage. The lipped long edges are designed to aid straightforward alignment and hanging. If your opening requires a non-standard size, the door can be trimmed to fit. Measure your opening carefully and trim from the top and sides as needed, ensuring you do not remove the lipped edges on the long sides as these are essential for proper hanging and alignment. After trimming, sand any cut edges smooth and apply your chosen finish to all exposed surfaces, including cut edges, to prevent moisture ingress and warping.
- Inspect the door on delivery for damage before decoration
- Measure your opening and trim from top and sides if required
- Preserve the lipped long edges during trimming
- Sand all cut edges smooth after trimming
- Apply finish to all surfaces including cut edges before hanging
Finishing and decoration
The door is supplied with unlacquered veneer faces, meaning it must be finished before use. Prepare the surface by lightly sanding with fine-grit sandpaper to key the veneer. Fill any minor imperfections with appropriate wood filler, then sand smooth. Apply your chosen paint system or wood stain according to the manufacturer's instructions. For paint, use a primer suitable for veneered surfaces, followed by undercoat and topcoat. For stain, apply directly to the prepared veneer. Ensure all edges, including the lipped edges and any cut edges, are finished to prevent moisture absorption and maintain the door's stability.
- Lightly sand the veneer surface with fine-grit paper to key the finish
- Fill minor imperfections with wood filler and sand smooth
- Apply primer, undercoat and topcoat if painting
- Apply stain directly to prepared veneer if preferred
- Finish all edges including lipped edges and cut edges
Maintenance and care
Once finished and hung, maintain the door by keeping it clean and dry. Wipe down regularly with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct water contact, as the 35mm solid core can absorb water if the finish is damaged. Check hinges and hardware periodically to ensure they remain secure. If the painted or stained finish becomes damaged, sand the affected area lightly and touch up with matching paint or stain to prevent moisture ingress. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals on the finished surface.
- Keep the door clean and dry with regular light dusting
- Avoid prolonged moisture exposure or water contact
