How and where to use guide
WEEDTEX Weed Control Fabric 1m x 15m Roll
Typical applications
WEEDTEX is ideal for use in flower beds, vegetable gardens, around the base of trees and shrubs, and beneath gravel or bark mulch. It is commonly used in landscaping projects, garden borders, and commercial planting schemes where weed suppression is required without regular chemical treatment. The fabric is also suitable for pathways and driveways when topped with decorative stone or gravel.
- Flower and shrub beds
- Around trees and woody plants
- Under gravel and decorative mulches
- Garden pathways and borders
- Commercial landscaping and amenity areas
Installation and usage
Prepare the ground by removing existing weeds and debris, then rake level. Unroll the WEEDTEX fabric across the prepared area, overlapping edges by at least 150mm to prevent weeds creeping through seams. Secure the fabric using landscape pegs, galvanised pins, or by burying the edges beneath soil or mulch. Cut holes or slits where plants are to be positioned, ensuring the fabric sits snugly around stems. Once secured, apply a 50-75mm layer of mulch, gravel, or bark chippings over the fabric to hold it in place, protect it from UV degradation, and create a finished appearance.
- Clear and level the ground thoroughly
- Overlap fabric edges by minimum 150mm
- Secure with landscape pegs or buried edges
- Cut planting holes and fit fabric around plant stems
- Cover with 50-75mm of mulch or gravel for protection and finish
Limitations and maintenance
WEEDTEX is a permeable fabric, so whilst it suppresses most weeds, some persistent perennial weeds with strong root systems may eventually penetrate. The fabric will degrade over time if exposed to direct sunlight without protective mulch cover, so always apply a top layer. Inspect the fabric annually and replace any damaged sections. Remove any debris or leaves that accumulate on the surface to prevent them from creating a growing medium for opportunistic weeds. The fabric should not be used in areas subject to standing water or poor drainage, as this may cause soil degradation.
- Always cover with mulch or gravel to protect from UV
- Check annually for damage or displacement
- Remove accumulated debris to prevent weed establishment
- Not suitable for waterlogged or poorly drained sites
- Strong perennial weeds may eventually penetrate
On-site tips
Order slightly more fabric than calculated to account for overlaps and cutting waste; this 1m x 15m roll is best suited to smaller beds or borders. For larger areas, consider ordering multiple rolls to minimise joins. When cutting planting holes, make a cross-cut rather than a circular hole to allow the fabric to be pulled back around the plant stem, improving contact with soil and reducing weed ingress. In windy conditions, secure the fabric immediately after laying to prevent it lifting. If using the fabric under gravel, ensure gravel is at least 50mm deep to prevent fabric visibility and maintain appearance.
- Order extra fabric to allow for overlaps and waste
- Use cross-cuts for planting holes rather than circles
- Secure immediately in windy conditions
- Maintain minimum 50mm gravel depth for appearance
- Check seams and edges regularly for weed breakthrough
