How and where to use guide
Hardiebacker EZ Grid 1200 x 800 x 6mm
Typical applications
Hardiebacker EZ Grid is the preferred substrate for tiled bathrooms, shower enclosures, kitchen splashbacks and utility room walls where moisture exposure is a concern. Its non-combustible A1 rating makes it essential for fireplace surrounds and high-heat areas. The board's stability and smooth surface also suit modern kitchen installations with large-format tiles and natural stone cladding in both domestic and commercial settings.
- Tiled bathrooms and wet rooms
- Kitchen splashbacks and feature walls
- Fireplace surrounds and high-heat zones
- Utility and laundry room walls
- Natural stone and large-format tile installations
Installation and preparation
Fix Hardiebacker EZ Grid to timber or metal studs using corrosion-resistant fasteners, spacing them at 200mm centres. The board can be cut to size using a standard handsaw, circular saw or angle grinder with a masonry blade. Ensure the substrate is level and secure before fixing. For wet areas, seal all joints, edges and fastener heads with a waterproof membrane or sealant before tiling. The EZ Grid surface pattern aids layout and helps ensure accurate tile placement.
- Fix with corrosion-resistant screws or nails at 200mm centres
- Cut easily using standard saws or masonry blades
- Seal joints and edges with waterproof membrane in wet areas
- Use the grid pattern to guide tile layout and spacing
- Ensure substrate is level and fully supported before fixing
Performance and durability
Hardiebacker EZ Grid resists moisture penetration, swelling and mould growth, ensuring long-term performance in damp environments. Its fibre cement composition provides dimensional stability, preventing warping or movement that could crack grout or tiles. The A1 fire rating offers safety in high-risk areas without compromising aesthetics. Once tiled and sealed, the board requires no further maintenance beyond standard tile care.
- Fully moisture and mould resistant
- Dimensionally stable—no swelling or warping
- A1 non-combustible fire rating for safety
- Maintains integrity under heavy tile loads
- Durable finish with minimal maintenance once installed
On-site handling and storage
Hardiebacker EZ Grid is lightweight, making it easy to transport and position on site. Store boards flat in a dry location, protected from weather and standing water. Avoid stacking excessively or leaving boards unsupported across their length, as this can cause sagging. Handle carefully to prevent edge damage, which could compromise water resistance at joints. Keep the site tidy and remove offcuts promptly to maintain safety and workflow.
- Store flat and dry, away from weather exposure
- Transport and handle carefully to protect edges
- Do not leave unsupported across long spans
- Remove offcuts and dust promptly
- Wear a dust mask when cutting to minimise inhalation
