How and where to use guide
Thistle Hardwall 25Kg Per Bag
Suitable backgrounds and applications
Thistle HardWall is formulated for use on most masonry backgrounds including bricks, medium-density blocks, and aircrete blocks. It is suitable for internal walls and ceilings where an undercoat plaster is required as part of a two-coat plaster system. The high impact resistance makes it particularly valuable in commercial spaces, corridors, stairwells, and other areas where walls are subject to knocks and wear.
- Suitable for brick, medium-density block, and aircrete block backgrounds
- For internal use only as an undercoat plaster
- Ideal for high-traffic commercial and residential environments
- Forms the base coat in a two-coat plaster system
Application methods and on-site tips
Thistle HardWall can be applied by hand using a trowel or by spray application, giving you flexibility depending on site conditions and project scale. The quick-drying nature of this plaster means you can progress to the finish coat sooner than with standard undercoats, helping to keep work moving forward. Ensure the background is clean, sound, and free from loose material before application. Dampen the surface appropriately to control suction and achieve proper adhesion.
- Apply by hand trowel or spray application
- Quick drying allows faster progression to finish coat
- Prepare background by removing loose material and dust
- Dampen masonry to control suction before plastering
- Work in manageable sections to maintain consistency
Two-coat system and finish
Thistle HardWall is designed as the undercoat in a two-coat plaster system. Once the undercoat has dried sufficiently, apply a suitable finish coat plaster to achieve the final surface. The high impact resistance of the undercoat provides a durable base that protects the wall from damage during construction and in use, whilst the finish coat delivers the desired aesthetic and final performance.
- Use as undercoat only; apply finish coat once dry
- High impact resistance protects against damage during and after construction
- Provides a stable, sound base for finish plaster
- Follow manufacturer guidance on drying times before applying finish coat
Storage and handling
Store Thistle HardWall in a dry location protected from weather and moisture. Keep bags sealed until ready for use to prevent premature hydration. Check the bag for any signs of damage or moisture ingress before opening. Mix only the quantity you can use within a reasonable working time, as the quick-drying nature means material will set faster than slower-setting plasters.

- Keep bags sealed until required
- Check bags for damage before opening
- Mix in batches to suit your working pace
