How and where to use guide

Build Bloc 100mm Medium Dense Concrete Block 7N - 440mm x 215mm x 100mm

Typical applications

Medium dense concrete blocks are ideal for load bearing walls in houses, flats, and commercial buildings. They perform particularly well in applications requiring high structural strength combined with good sound insulation properties. Use them for external cavity walls, internal partition walls, and basement construction where durability and moisture resistance are important. Their excellent fire resistance makes them suitable for fire-rated wall construction.

  • External load bearing walls in residential and commercial buildings
  • Internal load bearing walls and partitions
  • Basement and below-ground applications
  • Acoustic barrier walls where sound reduction is required
  • Fire-rated wall construction

Handling and installation

These blocks are lighter than solid dense alternatives, reducing fatigue during handling and installation on site. Stack blocks carefully on level ground to prevent damage and tipping hazards. Ensure adequate mortar bed preparation and maintain consistent joint thickness throughout the wall. Use appropriate mortar mixes suitable for medium dense blocks and follow standard masonry practices for bonding patterns and wall ties in cavity construction.

  • Handle blocks carefully to avoid chipping or cracking corners
  • Store on level, well-drained ground away from site traffic
  • Use appropriate mortar mixes for medium density blocks
  • Maintain consistent bed joint thickness of approximately 10mm
  • Install wall ties at correct spacing in cavity walls

Performance benefits

The medium dense composition delivers excellent load bearing capacity suitable for multi-storey construction whilst maintaining superior acoustic performance for sound insulation. Fire resistance is inherent to the concrete block material, providing passive fire protection without additional treatments. The consistent manufacturing process ensures uniform strength and appearance across all blocks, reducing waste and rework on site.

Limitations and site considerations

Whilst these blocks offer excellent durability, they should be protected from prolonged water saturation during construction. Allow adequate curing time before applying finishes or loading walls. In highly exposed coastal or aggressive chemical environments, specify appropriate protective renders or coatings. Always check local building regulations and structural engineer specifications for load bearing applications, particularly in multi-storey work.
