Typical applications

This fire plasterboard is specifically designed for non-loadbearing partition construction, internal wall linings and ceiling systems where fire resistance is a primary requirement. It is commonly used in commercial buildings, multi-storey residential properties, escape route corridors and compartment walls where Building Regulations demand fire-resistant construction. The product is suitable for both new build and refurbishment projects where upgrading fire performance is necessary.

Installation and fixing

Install sheets vertically or horizontally depending on your partition layout, ensuring joints are staggered between layers for maximum fire performance. Fix to metal or timber studs using appropriate fixings at 150mm centres around perimeters and 300mm centres across intermediate studs. For optimal fire resistance, follow the tested system specification for your application, particularly regarding layer thickness and joint treatment. Square edge sheets require joint taping and finishing with fire-rated joint compounds to achieve rated performance.

Fire performance and limitations

A single 15mm layer in a metal stud partition system achieves 60 minutes fire resistance. However, the 12.5mm thickness of this product means you must verify the specific system design for your application to confirm it meets your required fire rating. Performance depends on correct installation, proper joint sealing, and use of compatible fire-rated finishing materials. This product is not suitable for loadbearing applications and does not provide structural support.

On-site handling and storage

Store sheets flat in a dry location protected from weather and moisture. Handle carefully to avoid damage to edges and corners, which could compromise fire performance if not properly repaired. Keep sheets away from damp areas and ensure adequate ventilation during storage. On site, protect sheets from rain and condensation until installation is complete, as moisture absorption can affect performance and workability.
