How and where to use guide
Siniat Standard Plasterboard 2400mm x 1200mm x 12.5mm TE (72)
Typical applications
This 12.5mm standard plasterboard is ideal for stud partition walls, timber or metal frame linings to masonry, and suspended ceiling systems in domestic and light commercial properties. The tapered edge profile allows for seamless jointing between boards, making it the preferred choice for walls and ceilings that will receive a finished surface. It is not suitable for external use, wet areas, or high-impact locations.
- Internal partition walls on timber or metal studs at 400mm or 600mm centres
- Linings to existing masonry walls using adhesive or mechanical fixings
- Suspended ceiling systems with appropriate support
- Any internal surface requiring a smooth, decorated finish
Installation and fixing
Fix plasterboard perpendicular to studs or joists using galvanised or drywall screws spaced at 300mm centres on edges and 400mm centres on intermediate supports. Ensure studs or joists are straight and properly spaced before fixing. Stagger joints between adjacent boards to avoid four-way junctions, and leave a small gap (typically 2-3mm) at perimeter edges to allow for minor movement. Support the board adequately during installation to prevent sagging or damage.
- Use 32mm drywall screws for 12.5mm board on timber studs
- Space fixings 300mm on board edges, 400mm on intermediate supports
- Stagger vertical and horizontal joints between sheets
- Support boards fully during installation to prevent deflection
Finishing and maintenance
The tapered edges are designed for tape and joint compound finishing. Apply joint tape to all tapered edge joints, then apply two or three coats of joint compound, sanding between coats to achieve a smooth, invisible joint. Alternatively, the entire surface can be skimmed with a thin plaster finish for a more durable surface. Once finished, the plasterboard requires only standard decoration (paint, wallpaper) and routine dusting. Avoid impact damage and moisture exposure during and after installation.
- Use standard joint tape and compound for tapered edge joints
- Apply minimum two coats of joint compound, sanding between coats
- Skim coat entire surface if preferred for enhanced durability
- Protect from moisture and impact until decoration is complete
On-site handling and storage
Store plasterboard flat on a level, dry surface in a well-ventilated area. Keep boards protected from weather and moisture, as gypsum absorbs water and will deteriorate if exposed to damp conditions. Handle boards carefully to avoid edge damage, which can compromise joint quality. Transport sheets flat, never on edge, to prevent breakage. Allow boards to acclimatise to site temperature and humidity before fixing, particularly in cold or damp conditions.
- Store flat on level supports in a dry, ventilated location
- Protect from rain and ground moisture during storage
- Handle carefully to avoid edge crushing or core damage
- Allow acclimatisation time in cold or very damp conditions before fixing
