How and where to use guide

Siniat Standard Plasterboard 1800mm x 900mm x 12.5mm SE (80)

Typical applications

This standard plasterboard is commonly used for internal partition walls, wall linings over masonry or timber frames, and ceiling applications in domestic and light commercial buildings. The square edge design suits projects where the finished surface will receive a textured coating, spray finish or gypsum plaster skim rather than a decorated taped joint finish. It is particularly cost-effective for applications where aesthetic joint lines are not a priority.

  • Internal partition walls in houses, flats and commercial spaces
  • Lining existing masonry walls and timber stud work
  • Ceiling applications in standard construction
  • Bases for textured finishes, spray coatings or plaster skims
  • Projects requiring normal fire and acoustic performance

Installation and fixing

The 1800mm x 900mm format is a standard size suitable for most stud spacing and ceiling joist layouts. Boards should be fixed securely to timber or metal framing using appropriate fixings such as drywall screws or nails, spaced according to building regulations and the board manufacturer's guidance. Ensure framing is square and properly spaced before fixing. Boards should be handled carefully on site to avoid damage to edges and corners, and stored flat in dry conditions to prevent moisture absorption and warping.

  • Fix to timber or metal studs with drywall screws or nails at recommended centres
  • Ensure framing is square and level before fixing
  • Stagger joints between board layers for improved strength
  • Store boards flat and dry on site to prevent moisture damage
  • Cut boards carefully using a sharp utility knife to minimise dust and edge damage

Finishing and limitations

The square edge profile means joints are not designed for taped and jointed finishes. Instead, finish with gypsum plaster, textured coatings or spray finishes that will conceal the board edges and joints. The board is suitable for normal fire, structural and acoustic performance levels, so it is not appropriate for specialist applications requiring enhanced fire resistance, acoustic absorption or structural load-bearing. Always check local building regulations and project specifications to confirm this board meets your requirements.

  • Finish with gypsum plaster skim or textured coating
  • Not suitable for taped and jointed finishes due to square edge profile
  • Meets standard fire and acoustic performance only
  • Not designed for high-moisture areas without additional protection
  • Confirm suitability for specific fire rating or acoustic requirements before purchase

On-site handling and maintenance

Protect boards from weather and moisture during storage and installation. Keep boards in a dry environment and allow them to acclimatise to site conditions before fixing. Once installed and finished, standard plasterboard requires no special maintenance beyond normal decoration and redecoration as needed. Avoid impact damage during construction and ensure adequate ventilation during and after installation to allow any moisture to dissipate.

  • Store indoors in dry conditions, away from direct weather exposure
  • Allow boards to acclimatise to site temperature and humidity before fixing
  • Protect finished surfaces from impact and damage during construction
  • Ensure adequate ventilation during and after installation
  • No specialist maintenance required once finished and decorated
