Ecotherm Rigid PIR Insulation 1200 x 2400 x 25mm

Typical applications and installation

This PIR insulation board is designed for use in floors, walls and roofs in both new build and retrofit scenarios. The 1200 x 2400mm format allows efficient coverage with minimal waste on standard stud and joist spacings. Install boards between structural elements such as floor joists, wall studs or roof rafters, securing with appropriate mechanical fixings or adhesive suitable for PIR foam. Ensure boards are fitted tightly together to minimise thermal bridging at joints. The 25mm thickness provides a practical balance between thermal performance and ease of handling on site. For retrofit applications, boards can be fitted to internal or external faces depending on your building design and moisture management strategy.

  • Suitable for floors, walls and roofs in new build and retrofit projects
  • Install between structural elements with tight joints to reduce thermal bridging
  • Secure with mechanical fixings or PIR-compatible adhesive
  • 25mm thickness balances thermal performance with practical handling
  • Confirm compatibility with your chosen fixing method before installation

Thermal and structural performance

The board delivers thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK, providing consistent insulation performance across your installation. Compressive strength is rated at 175 kPa, which supports typical structural loads in standard building applications such as floor joists and roof structures. This specification allows the board to be used in load-bearing positions without additional support in most domestic and light commercial scenarios. BBA certification confirms that the product meets recognised standards for thermal and structural performance, giving confidence to specifiers and builders.

  • Thermal conductivity 0.022 W/mK ensures reliable insulation value
  • Compressive strength 175 kPa suitable for typical floor and roof loads
  • BBA-backed certification provides specification assurance
  • Confirm load requirements for your specific application before installation

Handling, storage and on-site tips

Ecotherm Rigid PIR boards are lightweight, making them easier to handle and position than many alternative insulation materials. Store boards flat and dry on site, protected from weather and direct sunlight to prevent degradation. Keep boards away from naked flames and heat sources during storage and installation. When cutting boards to fit around obstacles or to length, use a fine-toothed saw or hot-wire cutter to achieve clean edges and minimise dust. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment including gloves and eye protection when handling and cutting. Ensure adequate ventilation on site, particularly in enclosed spaces. Do not compress or crush boards during storage or installation, as this may reduce thermal performance.

  • Lightweight boards reduce handling effort and installation time
  • Store flat, dry and protected from weather and direct sunlight
  • Use fine-toothed saw or hot-wire cutter for clean cuts
  • Wear gloves and eye protection when handling and cutting
  • Avoid compression or crushing to maintain thermal performance

Limitations and design considerations

This 25mm board thickness is suitable for many retrofit and new build applications, but confirm that it meets the U-value and thermal resistance requirements of your specific building design and Building Regulations compliance. The compressive strength of 175 kPa is appropriate for typical domestic floor and roof applications; for heavier loads or commercial applications, verify suitability with structural calculations. PIR foam requires appropriate moisture management in your building design, particularly in walls and roofs where condensation risk exists. Ensure your installation includes appropriate vapour control layers and ventilation as required by Building Regulations and your design strategy. Do not use this product in applications exposed to continuous high temperatures or direct flame.

  • Confirm 25mm thickness meets your U-value and Building Regulations requirements
  • Verify 175 kPa compressive strength is suitable for your structural loads
  • Incorporate appropriate vapour control and ventilation in your design
  • Not suitable for high-temperature or direct flame exposure
