How and where to use guide

IKO Enertherm ALU Full Fill Cavity Wall Insulation 90mm x 1200mm x 450mm

Typical applications

This insulation board is specified for masonry cavity walls in domestic and light commercial buildings. It is particularly suited to new build construction where the cavity can be properly managed during installation. The product maintains its performance in standard UK weather conditions and is compatible with standard cavity wall construction techniques.

  • New build masonry cavity walls
  • Residential and light commercial properties
  • Projects requiring full cavity fill with moisture control
  • Applications where reflective thermal properties are beneficial

Installation and on-site guidance

Install boards vertically within the cavity, working from the base upwards. The Tongue and Groove edges must be engaged to create a continuous thermal and vapour barrier. Ensure the 10 mm residual cavity is maintained between the outer face of the insulation and the outer leaf of masonry to allow air circulation and moisture drainage. Support boards adequately during installation to prevent sagging or displacement. Boards should be cut to fit around openings and service penetrations; use a fine-toothed saw for clean cuts. Stagger vertical joints between courses to avoid continuous weak points. Do not compress the boards excessively, as this reduces thermal efficiency.

  • Install with Tongue and Groove edges fully engaged
  • Maintain 10 mm residual cavity behind outer leaf
  • Work from base upwards with adequate temporary support
  • Stagger vertical joints between courses
  • Cut boards cleanly with fine-toothed saw; avoid crushing foam core
  • Seal any gaps at openings and service penetrations

Limitations and important considerations

This product is designed specifically for full fill cavity wall applications and is not suitable for partial fill or thin cavity installations. The 10 mm residual cavity must be maintained; failure to do so compromises the moisture management strategy and may lead to damp problems. The boards must not be exposed to direct weather during storage or installation; protect from rain and UV exposure. Do not use in applications where the cavity width cannot accommodate the board thickness plus the 10 mm air gap. The aluminium facing provides vapour control but is not a substitute for proper site practice and weather protection during construction.

  • Not suitable for cavities narrower than board thickness plus 10 mm residual gap
  • Residual cavity is essential for moisture management
  • Protect from weather exposure during storage and installation
  • Not designed for partial fill applications
  • Aluminium facing must not be damaged during handling

Storage and handling

Store boards flat and dry on a level surface, protected from rain, direct sunlight and physical damage. Keep packaging intact until ready for use. Handle carefully to avoid crushing the foam core or damaging the aluminium facing, as this compromises thermal and vapour performance. Stack boards neatly to prevent warping. Boards should be brought to ambient temperature before installation in cold weather to avoid condensation issues. Inspect boards on site before installation and reject any with visible damage to the facing or core.

  • Store flat, dry and protected from weather
  • Keep packaging intact until installation
  • Avoid crushing or puncturing the foam core
  • Protect aluminium facing from damage
  • Allow temperature acclimatisation in cold weather
