How and where to use guide

Gtec Siniat Moisture Plasterboard 2400mm x 1200mm x 15mm TE (50)

Typical applications

Use this moisture plasterboard in any internal area subject to high humidity or occasional water splash. It is particularly suited to bathrooms, en-suites, shower rooms, fitted kitchens, utility rooms, cloakrooms and laundries. The board can be used on timber or metal stud framing for both walls and ceilings. It is not suitable for external use, direct immersion in water, or areas with persistent water ingress such as basements prone to flooding.

  • Bathrooms and shower enclosures
  • Kitchen walls and soffits
  • Utility rooms and laundries
  • Cloakrooms and en-suites
  • Any humid internal environment

Installation and fixing

The 2400mm x 1200mm x 15mm board is handled and fixed using standard plasterboard methods. Ensure the supporting frame is level, square and properly spaced to prevent sagging. Fix boards with galvanised or stainless steel fixings to resist corrosion in damp conditions. Use plasterboard nails or screws at 150mm centres around perimeter and 200mm centres across intermediate studs. Stagger joints between adjacent boards and leave small gaps at perimeter to allow for minor movement. Ensure adequate ventilation during and after installation to prevent moisture trapping.

  • Fix with galvanised or stainless steel fasteners only
  • Space fixings at 150mm perimeter, 200mm intermediate
  • Stagger board joints to avoid weak points
  • Allow ventilation during installation
  • Leave small perimeter gaps for movement

Finishing and maintenance

Finish the board using moisture resistant joint compounds and alkali resistant glass fibre tape. Apply primer and paint suitable for humid environments, or use ceramic tiles with appropriate adhesive and grout. In kitchens and bathrooms, ensure all joints are properly sealed and taped to prevent moisture penetration behind the board. Maintain good ventilation through extractor fans or opening windows to manage humidity levels. Wipe down splashes promptly and ensure any leaks are addressed immediately to prevent water damage to the board and underlying structure.

  • Use moisture resistant joint compound and alkali resistant tape
  • Apply primer and paint rated for humid areas
  • Tile over using appropriate adhesive and grout
  • Seal all joints thoroughly
  • Maintain active ventilation in kitchens and bathrooms

Limitations and on-site tips

Moisture plasterboard provides protection against humidity and occasional splash but is not waterproof. Do not use in areas with persistent water ingress, direct spray from showers without proper screening, or where boards will remain wet for extended periods. Store boards flat and dry on site, protected from weather and ground moisture. Handle carefully to avoid damage to edges and corners. The board is heavier than standard plasterboard due to moisture additives, so ensure adequate support during installation. Always follow EN 520 Type H2 specifications and local building regulations for damp-prone areas.

  • Not suitable for direct water immersion or persistent dampness
  • Store flat, dry and protected from weather
  • Handle carefully to prevent edge damage
  • Heavier than standard board, ensure adequate support
  • Comply with EN 520 Type H2 and Building Regulations
