Fixing and buying guide
18mm 2400x600 Caber Tongue & Groove P5 MR Flooring Chipboard CPD Compliant 18TG
Sheet dimensions and coverage
Each sheet measures 2400mm long by 600mm wide, giving a coverage area of 1.44 m² per sheet. Calculate your floor area and divide by 1.44 to determine the number of sheets required. Account for waste and cutting around obstacles; most projects benefit from ordering 5–10% extra material.
- Single sheet area: 1.44 m²
- Typical sheet weight: approximately 25–28 kg (handle with appropriate lifting equipment)
- Store flat and dry before installation
Fixing to joists
The chipboard must be fixed securely to timber joists or other approved structural supports. Joist spacing should not exceed 400mm centres for this 18mm thickness to ensure adequate support and prevent deflection.
- Use corrosion-resistant screws or ring-shank nails suitable for chipboard
- Fix at 150mm centres along joists and 300mm centres across intermediate supports
- Ensure all edges are supported; use blocking or noggins where necessary
- Leave a 10–15mm expansion gap around perimeter walls
Moisture-resistant specification
The MR (moisture-resistant) grade is designed for areas subject to occasional moisture, such as kitchens and utility spaces in normal domestic conditions. It is not suitable for permanently wet environments or external use.
- Suitable for kitchens, utility rooms, and bathrooms with good ventilation
- Not recommended for wet rooms, external decking, or areas with standing water
- Maintain relative humidity below 65% for optimal performance
Tongue and groove installation
The precision-engineered tongued and grooved edges allow sheets to interlock, creating a stable floor with minimal movement. This profile simplifies laying and reduces gaps between sheets.
- Lay sheets with tongue and groove edges engaged
- Stagger joints between rows to distribute loads evenly
- Ensure tight seating of edges before fixing to joists
