How and where to use guide
18mm 2400x600 Caber Tongue & Groove P5 MR Flooring Chipboard CPD Compliant 18TG
Domestic flooring applications
The chipboard is well-suited to new-build and refurbishment projects in residential properties. The 18mm thickness provides robust performance for living areas, bedrooms, hallways, and kitchens where occasional moisture exposure is expected.
- New-build timber-frame houses and flats
- Refurbishment of existing timber joist floors
- Kitchens and utility rooms with good ventilation
- Bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways
Commercial flooring
The structural grade and moisture-resistant specification allow use in specific commercial environments, provided joist spacing and support requirements are met. Consult structural engineers for heavy-load or specialist commercial applications.
- Office buildings and retail spaces
- Light commercial kitchens and food preparation areas
- Storage and warehouse mezzanines (subject to load calculations)
- Not suitable for heavy industrial or high-traffic commercial environments without additional specification
Environmental conditions and limitations
The moisture-resistant grade is designed for normal domestic humidity and occasional moisture exposure. It is not suitable for permanently wet or external environments.
- Suitable for areas with relative humidity below 65%
- Not recommended for wet rooms, bathrooms without ventilation, or external decking
- Not suitable for areas with standing water or continuous moisture exposure
- Ensure adequate ventilation in kitchens and utility spaces
Preparation and substrate requirements
Proper preparation of the joist structure ensures the chipboard performs as intended and prevents movement, squeaking, or deflection.
- Joists must be level and spaced at maximum 400mm centres
- All joists must be sound, dry, and free from rot or significant deflection
- Ensure adequate ventilation beneath the floor to control moisture
- Remove any debris or old flooring material before laying
