Fixing and buying guide
3.6Mtr X 47 X 125mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber
Selecting the right quantity
Calculate your timber requirement based on joist spacing, stud centres, or frame design. This 3.6m length suits standard floor and roof layouts. Account for waste and cutting losses—typically 5–10% depending on your design. Order in multiples of full lengths where possible to minimise offcuts.
- Measure span distances and load requirements before ordering
- Check building regulations and structural design guidance for your application
- Allow for waste in your quantity calculation
Storage and handling on site
Keep timber dry and well-ventilated. Stack horizontally on level ground or bearers, with spacers between layers to allow air circulation. Protect from direct rainfall and ground contact. The kiln-dried finish means moisture absorption will affect dimensional stability and strength performance if left exposed.
- Store under cover in a dry, well-ventilated location
- Use spacers between stacked layers for air flow
- Keep away from ground contact and standing water
- Protect from prolonged exposure to weather before installation
Pressure-treated timber handling
This timber is pressure-treated with preservative for rot and insect resistance. Wear gloves when handling to avoid skin contact with treatment residue. Avoid breathing dust when cutting—use a dust mask and cut outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. Wash hands and exposed skin after handling.
- Wear gloves during handling and installation
- Use a dust mask when sawing or machining
- Cut outdoors or in ventilated spaces
- Wash hands and skin after contact
Fixings and fasteners
Use corrosion-resistant fixings—stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanised nails and screws—to prevent rust staining and degradation. Standard mild steel fixings will corrode in contact with treated timber. Pre-drill screw holes near timber edges to reduce splitting, particularly in the 47mm dimension.
- Select stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanised fixings
- Avoid mild steel nails and screws
- Pre-drill screw holes to prevent splitting
- Use appropriate fastener length for your application
