Fixing and buying guide

5.4Mtr X 47 X 175mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Selecting the right quantity

Calculate your requirements based on joist spacing, wall stud centres, or decking frame layout. C24 timber at this cross-section is suitable for standard residential floor joists (typically 400–600mm centres) and stud wall construction. Account for waste and cutting losses—typically 5–10% depending on your project layout.

  • Measure total linear metres needed for your application
  • Check local building regulations for span tables and load requirements
  • Order full lengths where possible to minimise joints in load-bearing positions

Storage and handling on site

Kiln-dried timber must be protected from moisture and weather to maintain its properties. Store horizontally on level ground with adequate ventilation underneath.

  • Keep timber under cover or use breathable sheeting—avoid plastic wrapping that traps moisture
  • Stack with spacers between layers to allow air circulation
  • Protect from direct ground contact to prevent moisture absorption
  • Handle carefully to avoid damage to edges and faces

Pressure-treated protection

This timber is pressure-treated with preservative to resist rot, fungal decay, and insect attack. The treatment is integral to the timber and does not require additional on-site application.

  • No further treatment needed for standard indoor structural use
  • Suitable for outdoor applications including decking frames and exposed positions
  • Cuts and exposed surfaces do not require sealing for structural integrity, though end-grain sealing may be considered for aesthetic finishes

Fixing and fastening

Use appropriate fixings for your application. For floor joists and stud walls, standard structural fixings such as joist hangers, metal straps, and nails or screws are suitable.

  • Select fastening method based on connection type and load requirements
  • Ensure fixings are corrosion-resistant when used with treated timber
  • Follow building regulations and structural design guidance for spacing and sizing of fixings
