Typical applications and installation

This profiled moulding is commonly used as decorative edging on shelving units, cabinet doors, and fitted furniture where a finished ogee profile is required. It can be applied to the front edges of shelves, used as a cornice detail, or incorporated into bespoke cabinetry designs. Installation typically involves cutting to length with a fine-toothed saw, then securing with wood adhesive and panel pins or screws. Ensure the substrate is clean and dry before application. The primed surface means the moulding is ready for painting or staining immediately after installation, reducing preparation time on site.

Cut to required lengths using a fine-toothed handsaw or circular saw for clean edges

Moisture resistance and environmental suitability

The moisture-resistant coating makes this profile particularly suitable for use in kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas prone to humidity or occasional splashing. However, this product is not designed for external use or prolonged water immersion. Whilst the coating provides protection against damp conditions, ensure adequate ventilation in wet rooms and avoid direct contact with standing water. The MDF core will swell if saturated, so maintain good site practices and protect stock from rain during delivery and storage.

Working with the material and finishing

MDF profiles are straightforward to work with using standard hand and power tools. The 18mm thickness is substantial enough for most applications and provides good screw-holding capability. The primed surface accepts paint and stain readily, though light sanding between coats improves finish quality. Take care when cutting to avoid chipping the profiled edge; a fine-toothed saw or circular saw blade produces the cleanest results. Dust extraction is recommended when machining, as MDF dust can be fine and irritating.

Limitations and maintenance

Whilst durable for interior use, this product is not load-bearing and should not be used as a structural element. Once installed and finished, maintenance is minimal; regular dusting and occasional wiping with a damp cloth is sufficient. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct heat sources or radiators, as this can cause the MDF to distort. If damage occurs to the primed surface, touch up with appropriate paint to prevent moisture ingress.
