How and where to use guide

Standard Ogee Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 58mm

Typical applications

This profiled moulding is ideal for finishing the visible edges of shelving units, display cabinets, and fitted furniture where a decorative detail is required. The ogee profile works well as edge banding on MDF or plywood shelves, as trim around cabinet openings, or as decorative cornice work on internal joinery projects. It is particularly suited to domestic and light commercial applications where a smooth, finished appearance is essential.

  • Shelving edge trim and finishing
  • Display cabinet and fitted furniture trim
  • Internal cornice and decorative detailing
  • Plywood and MDF edge banding

Installation and preparation

Before installation, ensure the moulding is acclimatised to the site environment for at least 48 hours to minimise movement. Cut lengths to size using a fine-toothed saw, supporting the profile firmly to prevent breakout on the decorative face. The primed surface is ready for painting or staining, though light sanding with fine abrasive may improve paint adhesion. Apply wood adhesive to the back face and secure using panel pins or brad nails at 300mm intervals, ensuring fixings are set below the surface for filling.

  • Allow 48 hours site acclimatisation before use
  • Cut with fine-toothed saw, supporting the profile face
  • Light sand primed surface if required for paint adhesion
  • Secure with panel pins or brad nails at 300mm centres

Finishing and maintenance

The primed finish provides a base coat ready for painting with standard interior emulsion or wood paint. Fill nail holes and any joints with suitable filler before final decoration. The moisture-resistant properties help protect against humidity in kitchens and bathrooms, but the moulding should not be exposed to prolonged wet conditions or direct water spray. Regular dusting and occasional wiping with a damp cloth will maintain the finish; avoid harsh abrasive cleaners that may damage the paint surface.

  • Paint with standard interior emulsion or wood paint over primed base
  • Fill nail holes and joints before final decoration
  • Suitable for humid environments but not for wet areas or direct water exposure
  • Clean with soft cloth and mild detergent; avoid abrasive cleaners

Limitations and on-site considerations

This moulding is designed for internal use only and should not be exposed to external weather or prolonged moisture. The 5.49 metre length requires careful handling and storage to prevent warping or damage to the decorative profile. Plan cuts efficiently to minimise waste, as the ogee detail makes the moulding unsuitable for reworking once cut. Store flat in a dry environment and protect from impact during transport and on-site handling.

  • Internal use only; not suitable for external applications
  • Store flat in dry conditions to prevent warping
  • Handle carefully to protect the decorative ogee profile from damage
  • Plan cutting layout to minimise waste
