How and where to use guide

Ovolo Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 70mm

Typical applications

This profile is commonly used as an edge trim or finishing moulding in interior joinery work. It performs well on shelving units where the curved ovolo profile adds visual interest whilst protecting the MDF edge. Display cases and cabinet fronts benefit from the finished appearance the primed profile provides. The moisture-resistant properties make it suitable for use in kitchens and bathrooms where humidity levels are elevated, though it should not be used in fully wet areas or external applications.

  • Shelving unit edges and trim
  • Cabinet and display case finishing
  • Interior moulding and decorative edging
  • Kitchen and bathroom joinery applications

Installation and preparation

The profile arrives primed and ready for finishing. Measure and cut to length using a fine-toothed saw or mitre saw for clean edges. Apply wood filler to any cut ends to maintain the moisture-resistant properties. The primed surface accepts paint or stain directly, though light sanding between coats improves adhesion. Secure using appropriate adhesives for MDF or mechanical fixings such as panel pins or screws, ensuring fixings are countersunk and filled if visible. Allow adequate drying time between application of primer and topcoats.

  • Cut to length with fine-toothed saw for clean edges
  • Fill cut ends with MDF-compatible filler
  • Light sand primed surface before final finishing
  • Use MDF-suitable adhesives or mechanical fixings
  • Allow proper drying time between coats

Limitations and maintenance

Whilst moisture-resistant, this profile is not waterproof and should not be used in areas of direct water contact or external exposure. Avoid prolonged exposure to high humidity without adequate ventilation. The MDF core can swell if exposed to sustained moisture, so ensure proper site storage in dry conditions before installation. Once installed and finished, maintain with regular dusting and clean with a slightly damp cloth only. Do not allow water to pool on horizontal applications.

  • Not suitable for external use or fully wet areas
  • Store in dry conditions on site before installation
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in humid rooms
  • Clean with slightly damp cloth only, never soak
  • Protect from prolonged water exposure

On-site handling and storage

Deliver and store the 5.49 metre lengths flat and horizontally on a level surface, away from direct sunlight and damp areas. Keep wrapped or covered until ready for use to protect the primed finish from dust and moisture. Handle carefully to avoid damage to the profiled edge. Allow the material to acclimatise to the room temperature and humidity for 24 to 48 hours before installation, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms where moisture levels differ from storage conditions.

  • Store flat and horizontal on level surface
  • Keep covered until ready for use
  • Allow 24 to 48 hours acclimatisation before installation
  • Protect from direct sunlight and damp during storage
