Fixing and buying guide

Hardwood Plywood 2440 x 1220 x 5.5mm B/BB Face Class 2 also known as WBP

What you are buying

Each sheet measures 2440mm long by 1220mm wide by 5.5mm thick. The Eucalyptus core is cross-laminated from multiple plies to resist twisting and warping, critical for cabinet doors and shelving that must remain flat and square. The B/BB face classification means the top veneer is sanded smooth and free from major defects, ready for painting, staining, or veneering. The reverse BB face is acceptable for internal surfaces not on display. WBP adhesive throughout the panel provides moisture resistance suitable for kitchens and bathrooms.

  • Single sheet: 2440 x 1220 x 5.5mm
  • B/BB face grading: premium finish side, utility reverse
  • Eucalyptus core for stability and flatness
  • WBP adhesive bonding for humid environments
  • Smooth surface ready for paint or veneer

Who this is for and typical uses

This plywood suits trade joiners, kitchen fitters, and experienced DIY makers building fitted cabinetry, shelving units, and furniture carcasses. It is not suitable for external use or structural framing. Use it where you need a stable, flat panel with a quality finish that will be visible or painted. It is ideal for cabinet sides, shelves, drawer bases, and decorative joinery in living spaces, kitchens, and bedrooms.

  • Fitted cabinetry and kitchen units
  • Shelving and storage carcasses
  • Furniture making and bespoke joinery
  • Internal fit-out and decorative panelling
  • Projects requiring a paintable or veneerable surface

Compatibility and sizing

At 2440 x 1220mm, this sheet is the standard European plywood size and will fit most workshop equipment and van racks. The 5.5mm thickness is suitable for cabinet sides, shelves up to 600mm span with light loading, and drawer bases. For longer unsupported shelves or heavier loads, consider thicker stock. Check your design and load requirements before ordering. The sheet can be ripped, crosscut, and edge-banded using standard woodworking machinery. Plan your cutting layout to minimise waste, as the B/BB face should be positioned as the visible surface.

  • Standard 2440 x 1220mm sheet size
  • 5.5mm thickness suitable for cabinet carcasses and shelves
  • Compatible with standard workshop saws and edge-banding equipment
  • Plan cutting layout to use B/BB face as visible surface
  • Not suitable for external exposure or structural load-bearing

Pre-installation checks and preparation

Before use, inspect the sheet for damage in transit and allow it to acclimatise to your workshop for 24 to 48 hours, particularly if moving from a cold store. Check that your design accounts for the sheet thickness and plan edge treatments—edge banding, lipping, or solid timber edging will improve appearance and durability. Ensure your cutting and assembly space is clean and level. If painting, the smooth B/BB face requires only light sanding and primer. If veneering, confirm the surface is dust-free. Store sheets flat and supported on battens to prevent sagging or warping.

  • Inspect for transit damage upon delivery
  • Allow 24 to 48 hours acclimatisation in your workshop
  • Plan edge treatments: banding, lipping, or solid timber
  • Light sand and prime the B/BB face before painting
  • Store flat on level battens to maintain flatness
