2.4Mtr X 47 X 75mm Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Specification and grading

This timber is strength-graded to C24 standard, indicating superior load-bearing capacity and reliability compared to lower grades such as C16. The 47 × 75 mm cross-section is a common regularised (planed) dimension, meaning all four faces are dressed to consistent size for easier handling and fitting. The timber is kiln-dried (KD) to reduce moisture content, improving stability and reducing movement after installation.

  • C24 grade provides enhanced strength for structural applications
  • Regularised finish means consistent sizing across all pieces
  • Kiln-dried reduces moisture-related movement and warping
  • Pressure-treated with preservative for rot and insect resistance

Pressure treatment and durability

The timber has been pressure-treated with preservative to protect against rot, fungal decay, and insect attack. This treatment extends the service life significantly, making it suitable for both internal and external applications where moisture exposure is a concern. The treatment is applied under pressure to ensure deep penetration into the timber.

  • Protects against wet rot, dry rot, and fungal decay
  • Resists wood-boring insect damage
  • Suitable for exposed and semi-exposed locations
  • Treatment meets current BS EN standards

Buying considerations

When ordering, confirm the 2.4 metre length meets your project requirements. Check that the 47 × 75 mm cross-section is appropriate for your intended use—floor joists, roof battens, stud walls, and decking frames are typical applications. Order slightly more than calculated to account for cutting waste and site damage. Inspect delivery for any visible damage or excessive cupping before accepting.

  • Verify length and cross-section match your design specification
  • Allow for cutting waste in your order quantity
  • Check pieces on delivery for damage or excessive defects
  • Store flat and level on site to prevent warping

Storage on site

Treated carcassing timber should be stored flat and level, supported at regular intervals to prevent sagging or cupping. Keep the stack clear of the ground using bearers or pallets to allow air circulation underneath. Protect from direct rainfall and standing water, but allow air movement around the stack to prevent moisture trapping. Cover the top of the stack if storage exceeds a few weeks.

  • Store flat on level bearers or pallets
  • Ensure air circulation beneath and around the stack
  • Protect from standing water and prolonged wet conditions
  • Cover the top if storing for extended periods
