Fixing and buying guide

3.6Mtr X 47 X 100mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Selecting the right size

This product is supplied at 47 × 100mm cross-section in 3.6 metre lengths. C24 timber is suitable for floor joists, roof battens, stud walls, and decking frames. Check your structural design or building plans to confirm the correct section size for your application, as load-bearing requirements vary by span and spacing.

  • Verify joist spacing and span requirements before purchase
  • C24 offers superior load-bearing performance compared to C16 timber
  • Regularised timber has a planed, uniform finish for easier handling

Storage and handling

Treated carcassing timber should be stored in dry conditions to maintain its properties. Although pressure-treated for durability, protect the timber from prolonged exposure to standing water or ground contact during storage.

  • Stack timber horizontally on level ground with adequate ventilation
  • Keep off damp ground; use bearers or pallets to elevate stock
  • Cover with breathable sheeting if stored outdoors for extended periods
  • Handle carefully to avoid damage to the planed surface

Cutting and finishing

The regularised finish means the timber is ready to use with minimal preparation. When cutting, exposed ends will not have the same level of preservative treatment as the factory-treated surfaces. For outdoor applications or where cut ends are exposed to weather, consider applying additional timber preservative to cut surfaces.

  • Use sharp tools for clean cuts
  • Apply preservative to freshly cut ends in outdoor applications
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when handling and cutting

Fixings and fasteners

Use corrosion-resistant fixings such as stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanised nails and screws. Standard mild steel fixings can corrode when in contact with treated timber, particularly in damp conditions.

  • Specify stainless steel or galvanised fasteners
  • Avoid direct contact between untreated steel and treated timber
  • Pre-drill where necessary to prevent splitting
