How and where to use guide
4.8Mtr X 47 X 100mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber
Floor joists and suspended floors
This timber is ideal for floor joists in residential and light commercial buildings. The 47 × 100mm section provides good strength-to-weight ratio for typical domestic floor spans. Use in ground-floor suspended timber floors, upper-floor joists, and loft structures where moisture levels are moderate and loads are predictable.
- Suitable for domestic floor spans up to approximately 4 metres depending on load and spacing
- Provides adequate depth for services (pipes, cables) to be run within the joist depth
- Treatment protects against moisture in ground-floor applications
Stud walls and partitions
Use as vertical studs in timber-frame stud walls for both external and internal partitions. The 100mm depth provides good lateral stability and allows for insulation and services within the wall cavity. C24 grading ensures adequate strength for multi-storey applications and wind loading.
- Suitable for load-bearing and non-load-bearing stud walls
- Allows space for mineral wool or foam insulation between studs
- Treatment provides protection in external walls subject to weather exposure
Roof battens and rafters
Suitable for roof battens, purlins, and lighter rafter applications. The section provides adequate strength for typical domestic roof pitches and snow loads. Use in conjunction with appropriate roof coverings and ventilation design. Treatment offers protection in the damp roof environment.
- Ideal for roof battens supporting slate, tile, or sheet coverings
- Can be used for rafter applications in low-slope or domestic roof designs
- Treatment protects against moisture ingress and fungal growth in roof voids
Decking frames and outdoor structures
The pressure treatment makes this timber suitable for decking frames, pergolas, and other outdoor structures. Use where timber is exposed to weather but not in direct ground contact. The treatment provides long-term protection against rot and insect damage in external applications.
- Ideal for decking joists and support frames
- Suitable for pergolas, garden structures, and external cladding battens
- Treatment ensures durability in wet and exposed conditions
General construction and building work
Beyond specific applications, C24 Treated Carcassing Timber is suitable for general structural timberwork including lintels, noggings, bracing, and temporary works. Its consistent quality and strength grading make it reliable for both planned structural elements and site-specific solutions.
- Use for temporary site structures and formwork support
- Suitable for internal bracing and lateral restraint elements
- Reliable choice where structural performance and durability are required
Limitations and where not to use
Do not use untreated carcassing timber in damp conditions, ground contact, or prolonged external exposure. This treated product is not suitable for applications requiring higher strength grades (such as C30 or above) or for specialist uses such as marine environments. Always verify suitability against your specific design requirements and Building Regulations.
- Not suitable for direct ground contact without additional protection
- Not recommended for applications requiring higher strength grades
- Check local Building Regulations for any specific material or treatment requirements
