Fixing and buying guide

2.4Mtr X 47 X 125mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Selecting the right size

This 47 × 125mm section is a standard carcassing size suitable for floor joists, roof battens, stud walls, and decking frames. The 2.4 metre length offers flexibility for most domestic and light commercial applications. Consider your span requirements and load conditions when determining whether this section meets your structural needs. For longer spans or heavier loads, you may need to increase the section size or reduce spacing between supports.

  • 47 × 125mm is a common section for residential floor joists and wall framing
  • 2.4 metre length suits standard room widths and reduces waste on many projects
  • C24 grade provides superior strength compared to C16, with fewer knots and better load-bearing capacity
  • Pressure-treated for protection against rot, fungal decay, and insect attack

Storage and handling

Treated timber should be stored in dry conditions to maintain its properties. Stack pieces horizontally with spacers between layers to allow air circulation and prevent moisture accumulation. Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water or ground contact without additional protection.

  • Store in a covered, well-ventilated area away from direct ground contact
  • Use timber spacers between layers to allow air flow
  • Keep away from areas prone to standing water or excessive moisture
  • Handle with care to avoid damage to the planed finish

Fixing methods

C24 Carcassing Timber can be fixed using standard fastening methods appropriate to your application. For floor joists, use joist hangers or traditional bearing on walls. For stud walls, fix to sole plates and head plates using nails or screws. Ensure all fixings are corrosion-resistant, particularly in treated timber applications.

  • Use corrosion-resistant fixings (stainless steel or galvanised) to prevent reaction with treatment
  • Joist hangers provide reliable support for floor joists
  • Nail or screw fixing to plates for stud wall construction
  • Follow Building Regulations and relevant BS EN standards for spacing and fixing centres

Moisture content and movement

This timber is supplied kiln-dried (KD), meaning it has been dried to a controlled moisture content. Regularised timber has been planed to uniform dimensions after drying. Minor movement may occur if the timber is exposed to significant changes in humidity, particularly in heated indoor environments. Allow for this in your design, especially for flooring and joinery applications.

  • Kiln-dried to controlled moisture content for stability
  • Regularised finish provides consistent dimensions
  • Allow for potential movement in high-humidity or heated environments
  • Acclimate timber to site conditions before installation where possible
