How and where to use guide

3.0Mtr X 47 X 125mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Indoor structural applications

In indoor construction, C24 timber is commonly used for floor joists, roof structures, and stud wall framing. The regularised finish provides a clean appearance and makes installation straightforward. The kiln-dried condition minimises moisture-related movement, which is important in finished spaces where cracking or warping could affect finishes or performance.

  • Floor joists: suitable for residential and light commercial spans
  • Roof battens and structural framing in attics and lofts
  • Stud walls for internal partitions and external walls
  • Lintels and structural supports above openings

Outdoor and exposed applications

The pressure-applied preservative treatment makes this timber suitable for outdoor use where it may be exposed to moisture, weather, and ground contact. The treatment protects against rot and insect attack, extending the service life significantly compared to untreated timber. Ensure adequate ventilation and drainage around outdoor installations to maximise durability.

  • Decking frames and structural supports
  • Fence posts and outdoor structures
  • Garden buildings and sheds
  • Exposed roof structures and battens

Installation best practice

Handle the timber carefully to avoid damage to the planed surface. Use appropriate fixings for the application—typically galvanised or stainless steel fasteners to avoid corrosion and staining. Ensure adequate ventilation around the timber, particularly in damp environments, to allow any residual moisture to dissipate. Do not cut or drill unnecessarily; where cuts are required, consider applying a timber preservative to the exposed surface.

  • Use galvanised or stainless steel fixings to prevent corrosion
  • Avoid unnecessary cutting; plan layouts to minimise waste
  • Ensure adequate ventilation and drainage around installations
  • Protect the timber from standing water and prolonged dampness
  • Follow structural engineer's design and spacing requirements

Storage and handling on site

Store the timber under cover in a dry location before installation. Protect it from direct contact with the ground and ensure air can circulate around the stack. Avoid exposing the timber to prolonged wet conditions before installation, as this can affect performance. Handle with care to prevent damage to the planed surface, which could compromise the appearance and potentially expose untreated wood.

  • Store under cover and off the ground
  • Allow air circulation around stacked timber
  • Keep away from direct contact with soil or standing water
  • Protect from weather during storage and installation
