Fixing and buying guide

3.0Mtr X 47 X 150mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Specification and grading

This timber is strength-graded to C24 standard, indicating superior load-bearing capacity and reliability compared to lower grades such as C16. The regularised finish means edges and faces are planed smooth for consistent dimensions and easier handling. Kiln-dried (KD) stock reduces moisture content, minimising movement and warping after installation. Pressure treatment provides long-term protection in exposed or damp conditions.

  • Strength grade: C24 (EN 338 standard)
  • Dimensions: 47 × 150 mm × 3.0 metres
  • Finish: Regularised and kiln-dried
  • Treatment: Pressure-applied preservative for rot and insect resistance

Typical applications

C24 carcassing timber is widely used in structural applications where strength and durability are essential. Its enhanced stability and fewer knots make it suitable for load-bearing work.

  • Floor joists and joist hangers
  • Roof battens and structural framing
  • Stud walls and partition framing
  • Decking frames and outdoor construction
  • General structural carcassing work

Handling and storage

Although kiln-dried, treated timber should be stored in dry conditions to maintain its properties. Stack horizontally with spacers between layers to allow air circulation. Protect from prolonged exposure to standing water or ground contact without additional damp-proof measures.

  • Store under cover in a dry location
  • Use spacers or stickers between layers for ventilation
  • Avoid prolonged ground contact without a damp-proof barrier
  • Handle with care to prevent damage to the planed surfaces

Fixings and installation

Use appropriate fixings for the application. For structural work, follow building regulations and relevant design standards. Treated timber can be fixed with standard fasteners, though stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanised fixings are recommended in exposed or damp conditions to prevent corrosion.

  • Use stainless steel or galvanised fixings in damp or exposed locations
  • Follow BS EN standards and building regulations for structural applications
  • Ensure adequate bearing and support at connection points
  • Allow for timber movement in long spans or high-moisture environments
