Fixing and buying guide

3.6Mtr X 47 X 150mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Selecting the right size

This product is supplied at 47 × 150mm cross-section in 3.6 metre lengths. C24 timber is suitable for floor joists, roof battens, stud walls, and decking frames. Check your structural design or building plans to confirm the correct section size for your application, as load-bearing requirements vary by span and spacing.

  • 47 × 150mm section provides good strength-to-weight ratio for typical domestic applications
  • 3.6 metre length suits standard floor and roof spans with minimal waste
  • Regularised finish means consistent sizing across all pieces for uniform installation

Moisture content and storage

This timber is supplied kiln-dried (KD), meaning it has been dried to a controlled moisture content. Proper storage before installation is essential to maintain this condition and prevent movement or warping.

  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated location away from ground contact
  • Keep timber covered but allow air circulation to prevent moisture absorption
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to rain or damp conditions before installation
  • Allow timber to acclimatise to site conditions for 48 hours before fixing in heated buildings

Fixing methods

C24 Treated Carcassing Timber is typically fixed using nails, screws, or bolts depending on the application. The timber's treated surface may require slightly longer fasteners than untreated timber to ensure adequate penetration.

  • Use corrosion-resistant fasteners (stainless steel or galvanised) to prevent staining and degradation
  • For joists and structural work, follow building regulations and structural engineer specifications for spacing and fixing centres
  • Pre-drill screw holes to reduce splitting, particularly near timber edges
  • Ensure adequate bearing length at supports (typically 75–100mm minimum for joists)

Treated timber handling

The pressure-applied preservative treatment protects the timber but requires sensible handling during installation and use.

  • Wear gloves when handling to minimise skin contact with treatment residue
  • Avoid breathing dust when cutting; use a dust mask if cutting indoors
  • Any cut ends should be treated with an appropriate end-grain preservative to maintain protection
  • Do not burn offcuts; dispose of treated timber waste responsibly
