Fixing and buying guide

4.8Mtr X 47 X 175mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Selecting the right size

This product is supplied as 4.8 metre lengths with a cross-section of 47 × 175mm. Measure your span and load requirements carefully before purchase. C24 timber offers superior load-bearing capacity compared to C16 grade, making it suitable for floor joists, roof battens, and stud walls where strength is critical. The regularised finish means edges are planed smooth for consistent sizing across pieces.

  • Check your structural design calculations to confirm 47 × 175mm is adequate for your span and load
  • Account for the 4.8m length when planning delivery and storage
  • Regularised timber has a smooth, planed finish for easier handling and installation

Storage and handling

Treated carcassing timber should be stored in dry conditions to maintain its properties. Although pressure-treated for durability, protect it from prolonged exposure to standing water or ground contact during storage.

  • Stack timber horizontally on level ground with spacers between layers to allow air circulation
  • Keep away from direct ground contact; use bearers or pallets underneath
  • Store in a covered area to protect from rain and excessive moisture
  • Handle with care to avoid damage to the planed surfaces

Fixing and installation

C24 timber accepts standard fixings for structural applications. Use appropriate fasteners for your specific application—typically galvanised or stainless steel nails and screws for treated timber to prevent corrosion.

  • Use corrosion-resistant fixings (galvanised or stainless steel) to prevent reaction with the timber treatment
  • Follow building regulations and structural design guidance for spacing and fixing patterns
  • Ensure adequate bearing length at supports—typically 40mm minimum for joists
  • Allow for natural timber movement; do not over-tighten fixings

Treated timber considerations

This timber is pressure-treated with preservative to resist rot, fungal decay, and insect attack. The treatment is integral to the timber's durability, particularly for outdoor or damp applications.

  • The treatment provides long-term protection in demanding environments
  • Avoid prolonged contact with untreated timber or materials that may compromise the treatment
  • If cutting or drilling, exposed surfaces will not have the same level of protection as the factory-treated surfaces
