Fixing and buying guide
3.6Mtr X 47 X 225mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber
Selecting the right size
This product is supplied at 3.6 metres in length with a cross-section of 47 × 225mm. Verify your project requirements against these dimensions before purchase. C24 timber is suitable for floor joists, roof battens, stud walls, and decking frames. Check your building plans or structural engineer's specifications to confirm the correct section size for your application, as undersizing will compromise load-bearing capacity.
- Confirm length and cross-section match your project requirements
- Check structural calculations or building regulations for minimum timber grades and sizes
- Account for waste and cutting when calculating quantities
Storage and handling
Treated carcassing timber should be stored in dry conditions to maintain its properties. Stack timber horizontally on level ground with adequate ventilation between pieces to prevent moisture accumulation. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or standing water, which can cause warping or discolouration.
- Store on level, well-drained ground with air gaps between pieces
- Keep away from direct contact with soil or standing water
- Protect from prolonged weather exposure during storage
Fixing and installation
C24 timber accepts standard fixings including nails, screws, and bolts. Pre-drill screw holes to prevent splitting, particularly near timber edges. Use corrosion-resistant fixings (stainless steel or galvanised) when installing treated timber, as the preservative treatment can accelerate corrosion of standard steel fasteners. Follow your structural engineer's or building control specifications for fixing centres and methods.
- Use corrosion-resistant fixings to prevent accelerated corrosion
- Pre-drill screw holes to avoid splitting
- Follow structural specifications for fixing centres and spacing
Pressure-treated properties
This timber is pressure-treated with preservative to protect against rot, fungal decay, and insect infestation. The treatment provides long-term durability in both sheltered and exposed conditions. The timber is kiln-dried (KD) to reduce moisture content, improving stability and reducing movement after installation.
- Treatment protects against rot, decay, and insect attack
- Kiln-dried to reduce moisture content and improve stability
- Suitable for use in damp or exposed locations
