Fixing and buying guide

Torus Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 117mm

What you are buying

You are purchasing a single length of primed MDF moulding in the Torus profile. The board is 5.49 metres long, 117mm wide, and 18mm thick. It arrives primed with a factory finish ready for painting or staining. The moisture-resistant treatment makes it more suitable for damp environments than standard MDF, though it should not be used in fully wet areas or external locations.

  • Single 5.49 metre length
  • Torus decorative profile
  • Pre-primed factory finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF core
  • 117mm width, 18mm thickness

Compatibility and applications

This profile works well as a dado rail, feature trim, or architectural moulding in hallways, kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces. It is compatible with standard wall fixings and adhesives used for MDF installation. The substantial 117mm width makes it a statement piece rather than subtle trim. Ensure your wall surface is sound, dry, and properly prepared before installation.

  • Internal use only
  • Suitable for kitchens and bathrooms (moisture-resistant treatment)
  • Works with standard MDF adhesives and mechanical fixings
  • Requires painted or stained finish after installation

Preparation and fixing

Before installation, check that the board is straight and undamaged. Measure and mark your fixing points carefully, accounting for the 117mm width. The primed surface is ready to accept paint or stain, but you may wish to sand lightly between coats for best results. Use appropriate fixings for your wall type—cavity wall anchors for plasterboard, or direct fixings into solid walls. Apply MDF adhesive along the back and use mechanical fixings at regular intervals for security.

  • Inspect for damage and straightness before fixing
  • Prepare wall surface: clean, dry, and sound
  • Use MDF-grade adhesive plus mechanical fixings
  • Allow adhesive to cure fully before painting
  • Sand between paint coats for professional finish

Finishing and maintenance

The primed surface accepts standard interior paint and wood stains. Apply at least two coats of quality paint for durability, particularly in moisture-prone areas. Moisture-resistant treatment helps protect the board, but proper paint coverage is essential for longevity in kitchens and bathrooms. Wipe clean regularly with a soft, slightly damp cloth; avoid prolonged water exposure.

  • Paint with quality interior emulsion or eggshell
  • Apply minimum two coats for protection
  • Alternatively, use wood stain suitable for MDF
  • Maintain with gentle cleaning; avoid soaking
