How and where to use guide
Torus Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 169mm
Typical applications
This moisture-resistant profile is ideal for skirting boards and decorative trim in kitchens, bathrooms, cloakrooms, and utility rooms. The 169mm depth makes it suitable for prominent wall features and dado rails in period properties or contemporary interiors. It can also be used as architrave around doorways in moisture-prone areas. The pre-primed surface means it is ready for finishing with quality interior paint immediately after fixing.
- Skirting boards in bathrooms and kitchens
- Dado rails and wall trim in moisture-prone rooms
- Architrave and door surrounds in utility spaces
- Decorative ceiling coving in damp-resistant applications
Installation and fixing
Measure and cut lengths to size using a fine-toothed saw or mitre saw for clean edges. Pre-drill fixing holes to prevent splitting, particularly near the ends. Fix to walls using moisture-resistant adhesive combined with stainless steel or galvanised nails or screws at 300-400mm centres. Ensure the wall surface is clean, dry, and sound before application. Mitred corners should be cut at 45 degrees for professional appearance. Allow adhesive to cure fully before painting, following the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.
- Use fine-toothed saw for clean, splinter-free cuts
- Pre-drill all fixing holes to prevent splitting
- Fix with stainless steel fixings in moisture areas
- Space fixings 300-400mm apart for secure hold
- Allow adhesive to cure before painting or decorating
Maintenance and limitations
The moisture-resistant treatment protects against humidity and minor water splash, but this profile is not suitable for direct water immersion or areas subject to persistent wet conditions such as shower enclosures or external use. Wipe down regularly with a dry cloth to prevent moisture accumulation. The pre-primed surface should be painted with quality interior paint suitable for moisture-resistant MDF. Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water or high-pressure water jets. In very humid environments, ensure adequate ventilation to prevent condensation buildup on the profile.
- Not suitable for external use or direct water immersion
- Avoid shower cubicles and areas of persistent wetness
- Paint with quality interior paint after installation
- Maintain good ventilation in kitchens and bathrooms
- Wipe clean regularly with a dry cloth
On-site handling and storage
Store the profile flat and horizontally in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct heat sources and damp. Protect from weather and condensation during transport and on-site storage. Allow the material to acclimatise to the room temperature and humidity for 24-48 hours before installation, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms where moisture levels fluctuate. Handle carefully to avoid damage to the pre-primed finish. Keep the protective wrapping on until ready to cut and install.
