Typical applications
This profile is ideal for skirting boards and dado rails in moisture-prone rooms including kitchens, bathrooms, cloakrooms, and utility areas. The moisture-resistant MDF core resists swelling and warping better than standard MDF when exposed to humidity and occasional splashing. It can also be used as decorative wall panelling, architrave, or cornice in these environments. The 198mm width makes it a bold architectural feature suitable for period properties or contemporary designs requiring substantial trim detail.

Installation and preparation
The profile arrives primed, reducing preparation work on site. Before installation, inspect lengths for damage and allow 48 hours acclimatisation in the room where it will be fitted. Cut to length using a fine-toothed saw or mitre saw; seal all cut ends with primer or paint to maintain moisture resistance. Fix using cornice adhesive, panel pins, or screws depending on substrate and load. In bathrooms and kitchens, use stainless steel fixings to prevent rust staining. Ensure walls are clean, dry, and level before fitting.

Finishing and maintenance
Although primed, the profile must be painted or sealed before use in moisture areas. Apply at least two coats of quality bathroom or kitchen paint, or use a water-resistant varnish for a natural finish. Pay particular attention to joints, cut ends, and the base where moisture ingress is most likely. In bathrooms, consider silicone sealant at the junction with tiles or shower enclosures. Wipe down regularly with a damp cloth; avoid prolonged water contact and ensure good ventilation to prevent condensation damage.

Limitations and on-site tips
Moisture-resistant MDF is not fully waterproof; it is designed to resist humidity and occasional splashing, not constant immersion or direct water spray. Do not use in external applications or unheated, unventilated spaces where condensation is severe. The 18mm thickness is substantial and requires careful handling to avoid edge damage during transport and fitting. Plan joints carefully on long runs; stagger joints between adjacent lengths to improve visual appearance and structural integrity. Store flat and protected from weather on site.
