How and where to use guide
Torus Primed Moisture Resistant MDF Profile 5.49 Mtr 18mm x 70mm
Typical applications
This moisture-resistant MDF profile is best suited to interior spaces where humidity levels may fluctuate, such as kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, and hallways. The torus shape works particularly well as skirting board, dado rail, or decorative wall trim. It can also be used for architrave around door and window openings where a softer, curved profile is preferred over sharp edges. The pre-primed finish makes it ideal for quick installation and decoration in new-build and refurbishment projects.
- Skirting boards in moisture-prone areas
- Architrave and door casings
- Dado rails and wall features
- Decorative edging and transitions
Installation and preparation
Measure and cut the profile to length using a fine-toothed saw or mitre saw for clean edges. Pre-drill nail holes to prevent splitting, particularly near ends. Apply construction adhesive to the back face and secure with 50mm lost-head nails or panel pins at 300mm intervals. Ensure the wall surface is clean, dry, and level before fixing. The pre-primed surface requires no sanding or undercoating, but check that all cut ends are sealed with primer before final decoration.
- Use fine-toothed saw for clean cuts
- Pre-drill to avoid splitting
- Fix at 300mm centres with lost-head nails
- Seal cut ends with primer before painting
Moisture resistance and maintenance
The moisture-resistant core protects against swelling and warping in humid environments, but this product is not suitable for external use or areas of prolonged water exposure such as shower enclosures or direct splash zones. Once installed and decorated, maintain with standard interior paint or varnish finishes. Wipe down with a damp cloth to remove dust; avoid prolonged contact with standing water. The pre-primed finish provides a stable base that reduces paint absorption and improves final finish quality.
- Not suitable for external or wet-room applications
- Maintain with standard interior finishes
- Avoid prolonged water contact
- Pre-primed base reduces paint absorption
On-site tips and limitations
Store the profile flat and indoors before installation to maintain dimensional stability. Allow the product to acclimatise to room temperature and humidity for 24 hours before fixing. The 18mm thickness and 70mm height suit standard room proportions; check ceiling height and wall dimensions before ordering to minimise waste. The 5.49 metre length typically covers one wall or multiple shorter runs. MDF is not suitable for external use, high-temperature environments, or areas subject to impact damage.
- Store flat indoors before use
- Allow 24-hour acclimatisation
- Check wall dimensions to minimise waste
- Not suitable for external or high-impact areas
