Fixing and buying guide

3.6Mtr X 47 X 50mm Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Selecting the right size

The 47 × 50mm section is commonly used for stud walls, roof battens, and lighter structural framing. Check your building design or structural engineer's specification to confirm this section is appropriate for your load requirements. C24 timber offers better strength and fewer defects than C16 grade, making it suitable for applications where reliability is important.

  • Verify section size against your structural drawings or specification
  • C24 grade provides enhanced load-bearing capacity compared to C16
  • Regularised finish means consistent dimensions across the length

Moisture content and storage

This timber is kiln-dried (KD), meaning it has been dried to a stable moisture content in a kiln. Store it in a dry location on site, ideally under cover, to maintain this condition. Exposure to wet weather or ground contact before installation can cause swelling and movement, affecting fit and performance.

  • Keep timber dry and covered until installation
  • Stack horizontally with spacers to allow air circulation
  • Avoid prolonged ground contact before use

Treatment and safety

The timber has been pressure-treated with preservative to protect against decay and insect damage. This treatment is suitable for both internal and external use. When cutting or machining treated timber, wear appropriate personal protective equipment including dust mask and eye protection. Treated timber can be painted, stained, or left to weather naturally depending on your project requirements.

  • Wear dust mask and eye protection when cutting or machining
  • Treatment is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications
  • Can be painted, stained, or left to weather

Compliance and standards

This timber meets current BS EN standards for structural timber and is strength-graded to C24. It is suitable for use in building work subject to Building Regulations. Always check local Building Control requirements for your specific application, as regulations may vary by region.
