How and where to use guide

4.8Mtr X 75 X 200mm C24 Treated Regularised KD Carcassing Timber

Floor joists and suspended floors

The 75 × 200mm section is well-suited to residential floor joisting. This size provides good load-bearing capacity for typical domestic floor loads when spaced at standard centres (typically 400mm or 600mm). Ensure joists are adequately supported at bearing points and that lateral bracing is installed to prevent twisting.

  • Suitable for ground and upper floors in residential buildings
  • Provides adequate depth for services (pipes, cables) to run within the joist depth
  • Requires appropriate bearing length at supports (typically 75mm minimum)

Stud walls and partitions

The 75mm width is standard for timber-frame stud wall construction. Use as vertical studs in non-load-bearing and load-bearing partitions. The 200mm length allows for standard 2.4m or 2.7m wall heights with minimal waste. Ensure studs are plumb and adequately braced with diagonal struts or sheathing.

  • Typical stud spacing: 400mm or 600mm centres
  • Suitable for both internal and external walls when combined with appropriate cladding and insulation
  • Provides good nailing surface for plasterboard and other finishes

Roof battens and rafters

This section can be used for roof battens and lighter rafter applications. The treated durability makes it suitable for exposed roof structures and outdoor applications. Ensure adequate ventilation in roof spaces to manage moisture. For pitched roofs with significant snow or wind loads, verify that the section is adequate for your location and design.

  • Suitable for roof battens supporting tiles or slates
  • Can be used for rafter construction in low-load applications
  • Treated protection extends service life in exposed roof environments

Decking frames and outdoor structures

The pressure-treated durability makes this timber suitable for decking frames, pergolas, and other outdoor structures. The 200mm depth provides good strength for decking joists. Ensure adequate ventilation beneath decking to allow moisture to dissipate. Use stainless steel or galvanised fasteners to prevent corrosion.

  • Ideal for decking joist construction at standard 400mm or 600mm spacing
  • Suitable for pergola beams and outdoor structural frames
  • Treated protection resists rot and insect attack in exposed outdoor conditions

General construction and structural work

Beyond the applications above, C24 Treated Carcassing Timber is suitable for general structural timberwork including lintels (when appropriately sized and supported), bracing, and temporary works. Its strength-graded properties and durability make it a reliable choice for professional builders and serious DIY projects.

  • Meets BS EN standards for structural timber applications
  • Strength-graded to C24 for predictable load-bearing performance
  • Suitable for both temporary and permanent structural applications
