How and where to use guide
GGL CK01 2070 VELUX WHITE PAINT 55 X 70 C/P 70 PANE
Typical applications and installation locations
This window is suitable for pitched roofs in residential properties, particularly loft conversions and attic bedrooms. The 55 x 70cm size fits standard UK roof rafter spacings and the 70mm pane depth accommodates typical roof construction depths. Install in south or west-facing roof slopes for maximum daylight benefit, though the unit performs well on any roof orientation. Ensure the roof structure can support the window weight and that adequate ventilation is maintained around the frame.
- Loft conversions and attic bedrooms
- Home offices and studios in upper storeys
- Bathrooms and en-suites requiring natural light and ventilation
- Pitched roofs between 15 and 55 degrees
- Standard UK timber rafter construction
Installation and preparation
The window arrives as a complete glazed unit ready for fitting into a prepared roof opening. The opening must be accurately sized to 55 x 70cm with level, square, and plumb sides. Install the frame using the supplied brackets and fixings, ensuring the unit is level and square before securing. Seal around the frame perimeter with appropriate flashing and roofing membrane to prevent water ingress. The centre-pivot mechanism must be accessible from inside the room for operation and cleaning.
- Prepare opening to exact 55 x 70cm dimensions with level, square sides
- Use supplied fixings and brackets for secure installation
- Install flashing and roofing membrane to prevent leaks
- Ensure frame is level and square before final securing
- Allow clear access to the pivot mechanism from inside
Operation, maintenance and limitations
The centre-pivot design allows the sash to rotate 360 degrees, enabling full access to both panes for cleaning from inside the building. This is particularly valuable for roof windows where external access is difficult or unsafe. Open the window to provide natural ventilation; the pivot mechanism can be locked in intermediate positions for secure trickle ventilation. Clean the frame and glazing regularly with mild soap and water. The white paint finish may require occasional touch-ups in high-exposure locations. Do not force the pivot mechanism if it becomes stiff; apply silicone-based lubricant to moving parts as needed.
- Centre-pivot allows 360-degree rotation for internal cleaning access
- Can be locked in open positions for controlled ventilation
- Clean frame and glass with mild soap and water
- Apply silicone lubricant to pivot mechanism if movement becomes stiff
- White paint may require touch-up in areas exposed to weather or UV
- Not suitable for flat roofs or roofs below 15 degrees pitch
On-site handling and safety
This is a glazed unit and must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the glass and frame. Transport horizontally and store in a dry location before installation. Two operatives are recommended for safe handling and positioning at height. Ensure the roof structure is adequately braced and safe before beginning work. Wear appropriate PPE when working at height and follow all relevant building regulations and safety standards for roof work.
