How and where to use guide
VELUX Centre-Pivot Roof Windows White Painted 94x55cm GGL PK25 2070
Typical applications and installation
This centre-pivot window is suited to pitched roof installations in residential properties, particularly loft conversions and attic bedrooms where headroom is limited. The PK25 size fits between standard roof rafters spaced at 550mm centres. Installation requires cutting an opening in both the roof structure and external covering, then securing the window frame with the supplied flashing kit to ensure weathertightness. The inward-opening design makes it practical for rooms with limited floor space, as the sash does not project outward into the roof void.
- Loft conversions and attic rooms
- Pitched roofs with 550mm rafter spacing
- Rooms requiring natural light and manual ventilation control
- Properties where external projecting windows are impractical
Operation and safety
The centre-pivot mechanism is operated by hand using the handle on the lower sash edge. Push the handle downward to open the window; the sash rotates inward on its pivot points. The window can be opened to approximately 45 degrees for safe ventilation without risk of the sash falling outward. Always ensure the window is fully closed and latched before leaving the room unattended. Do not force the mechanism if resistance is felt, as this may indicate misalignment or debris obstruction.
- Open by pushing the handle downward; close by pushing upward until fully latched
- Maximum opening angle is approximately 45 degrees
- Suitable for manual operation only—no motorised controls
- Keep the pivot mechanism clean and free from debris for smooth operation
Maintenance and care
The white painted finish should be inspected annually and cleaned with a soft cloth and mild detergent to maintain appearance and protect the coating. Check the flashing seal around the roof opening each year, particularly after severe weather, to ensure no water ingress has occurred. The pivot hinges and handle mechanism require occasional light lubrication with a silicone-based product to maintain smooth operation. Inspect glazing seals and weather stripping for signs of deterioration and replace if necessary to maintain thermal and weather performance.
- Clean painted surfaces with mild soap and water; avoid abrasive cleaners
- Lubricate pivot hinges and handle mechanism annually with silicone spray
- Check roof flashing seal for gaps or deterioration
- Inspect glazing seals and replace weather stripping if worn
Limitations and on-site considerations
This is a manually operated window and does not include motorised or remote opening controls. The centre-pivot design means the sash swings inward, so adequate internal clearance must be available—do not install where the open sash would obstruct access or create a safety hazard. The PK25 size is fixed to 550mm rafter spacing; if your roof structure differs, a different VELUX size may be required. The window is not suitable for flat roofs or roofs with a pitch less than 15 degrees. Proper flashing installation is critical to prevent water leaks; use only the manufacturer-supplied or approved flashing kit for your roof covering type.
- Manual operation only—no electric opening mechanism
- Requires minimum 15-degree roof pitch
- Ensure adequate internal clearance for inward-opening sash
- Use only approved flashing kit for your specific roof covering material
